Why is Jesus good news for you?

Because the gospel speaks to some of the deepest things we carry — our guilt, our search for meaning, our desire to change, our fear of death, and the exhausting feeling that everything depends on us.

Swipe through for some of the answers we’ve been discovering in Paul’s letter to the Colossians →

Which one hits home for you?

We spend so much of life trying to prove we’re enough. Successful enough, good enough, spiritual enough.

Jesus doesn’t give us another standard to reach. In him, we’re given what we could never achieve for ourselves.

“You have been filled in him.” Colossians 2:10

Our homes, careers, relationships and experiences are good gifts, but they were never meant to carry the weight of being everything.

Jesus lifts our eyes beyond the immediate: “Set your minds on things above.” Colossians 3:2

Christianity doesn’t begin with our journey towards God, but God’s journey towards us.

In Jesus, the invisible God has made himself known. “The Son is the image of the invisible God.”
Colossians 1:15

The good news doesn’t pretend our guilt isn’t real. It says Jesus has dealt with it. Paul describes our debt as being cancelled and nailed to the cross. Your past doesn’t have to have the final word.

Colossians 2:13–14
“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”

Family. Work. Money. The future. Ourselves. We can live as though everything depends on us. Colossians gives us a bigger picture of Jesus: “In him all things hold together.” — Colossians 1:17

The good news of Jesus isn’t that you can fix yourself. It’s that Jesus can rescue you. He brings us out of darkness and into his kingdom, where there is redemption and forgiveness. Real change begins not with trying harder, but with being rescued.

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.”
Colossians 1:13–14

The Christian hope isn’t simply making the most of the years we have.

Planting a church wasn’t always something Jimmy imagined he’d be doing.

But over the years, God has grown in him a love for the Tweed and a conviction that this is an exciting place and time to plant a church — one that knows Jesus and makes Jesus known.

Jimmy shares a little of that journey and why we’re so excited about what God might do in the Tweed.

Come and see what’s beginning.
Join us this Sunday as we gather at:

We love seeing this community grow! 🙌

At our latest gathering we looked at another value we want to shape us as a church: Welcoming.

“Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you.” — Romans 15:7

Because Jesus has welcomed and forgiven us, we want to be a community that welcomes and forgives one another.

We’d love you to join us next Sunday, 13 September at Pacific Coast Christian School as we continue looking at who we hope to be as a church in the Tweed.

Everyone is welcome! ❤️

Meet Jo 👋

Jo is part of the team helping us plant City on a Hill Tweed. Hear a little of her story and why she’s excited to be joining us as we seek to know Jesus and make Jesus known in the Tweed.

And if you’ve been wondering what City on a Hill Tweed is all about, this Sunday is a great time to come along.

Over these gatherings we’re unpacking our vision for the kind of church we’re praying to become here in the Tweed — what we value, what we’re passionate about, and where we believe God is leading us.

Come meet the team, hear more and see whether you might like to be part of it.

Hear from one of our team about why they’re excited to be part of City on a Hill Tweed and what they’re praying God might do through a new church in the Tweed.

Over our next few gatherings, we’re taking time to look at our vision — who we’re hoping to be as a church and what that could look like here in the Tweed.

What does real Christian ministry look like?

In Colossians, Paul doesn’t point to extraordinary experiences, impressive gifts, or a dramatic testimony as the marks of someone qualified to serve Jesus.

Instead, he points to something far more ordinary—and far more costly: sharing in Christ’s sufferings and relying on Christ’s power.

That’s the pattern for every follower of Jesus.
