Masking the Pain
Sometimes the hardest part is not the pain itself. It is feeling like you have to hide it.
You paste on a smile at church. You say you are fine when someone asks how you are doing. You carry the weight quietly because you have learned that many spaces do not know how to sit with ongoing hurt. Even if they did, they might even have a scripture or two that seems to come at you at the most inopportune time, and you know they mean well, but…
This includes grief that lingers, anxiety that does not lift quickly, or exhaustion that remains even when your faith is still intact.
**But here is the truth. You do not have to perform strength to be loved by God.**
(Psalm 34:18) - The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
(2 Corinthians 12:9) - My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
God is not ashamed of your honesty. He is not disappointed when you whisper, “Lord, I am not okay right now”. In fact, He invites us to be real with Him: trust in him at all times.
(Psalm 62:8) - Pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
•You can love Jesus and still have hard days. •You can trust Him and still need time to heal. •You can have real, genuine faith and still not be fine.
If you are carrying quiet pain while still showing up, that is not weakness. That is endurance. The Lord sees it. He honors it. He is walking with you through it. You are allowed to be honest. You are allowed to not be okay. And you are still fully loved exactly as you are, right where you are.
Lord, thank You that I do not have to pretend with You. Help me release the pressure to always appear strong. Give me courage to be honest about my pain, and surround me with people who know how to sit with me in it. Remind me that Your grace is enough even in my weakness. I am safe with You. Amen.
