This past Sunday was the kick off to our new series in Mark!!
Mark opens his Gospel with an outrageous claim: Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and the true King.
But he doesn’t expect us to take his word for it. In Mark 1:1-13, he calls his witnesses-the prophets, John the Baptist, and finally heaven itself. At Jesus’ baptism, the heavens are torn open, the Spirit descends, and the Father declares, “You are my Son, whom I love.”
This is the beginning of the good news: we don’t climb our way up to God. God came down to us. Jesus steps into our water, identifies with sinners, enters our wilderness, and ultimately goes to the cross in our place.
Mark’s Gospel confronts every one of us with the question: Who is this Jesus? Because if He really is the promised King and Son of God, He isn’t simply someone to admire or add to our lives. He is the Savior and Lord who invites us to trust Him, worship Him, and follow Him ❤️🔥
