“Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.”
—Mark 6:31
God isn’t calling us to starve for the sake of the work. Whatever the work may be.
I love the compassion here from Jesus, the empathy + action.
He says I see how tired you are. How everyone is pressing in on you. And you haven’t even eaten (or showered or slept—sounds like every mom I know right now). It’s time for nourishment.
When is the last time you grabbed your people and intentionally went away to rest? Or you set aside time to sit down and eat a good meal? Or you made plans to have dinner with a friend or five. Or a warm bath. Or a quiet hour. Maybe a time to play & eat & laugh & rest. To find nourishment of all kinds.
If Jesus did it, I’d say it’s a great practice.
Here’s to rest, to going away, to eating, to nourishment this weekend. ✌🏽
