John shared with us yesterday about the gifts of healing. Here are some excerpts:
Who has had a healing, who has moved in the gifts of Healings?
You need to have received the Holy Spirit (the baptism of the Holy Spirit), to move in the gifts of the spirit. So if you have already been baptised in water, please seek God for the Gift of the Holy Spirit. He will give this to you if you seek it.
The Gifts of Healings (a gift of gifts) (God’s Mercies)
3. The second gift of the group Power.
3a. The Gift of Faith
3b. The Gifts of Healings
3c. The Gift of Miracles
Description: The 4th gift of the Holy Spirit, by which the possessor moves supernaturally without human aid in the healing of others, delivering God’s mercy. This is done through the laying on of hands. (Mark 6:5). Through some common fabric (Acts 19:11,12), Through the spoken word (Matt 8:8). By your shadow passing over the afflicted (Acts 5:9).
The Gifts of Healings are given to the church for the purpose of removing sickness, disease and infirmity.
Sickness means: State of being ill.
Disease means: a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal or plant, especially one that produces specific symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.
Infirmity means: Physical or mental weakness, e.g. old age, delicacy, frailty, debility, weakness, decrepitude, feeble, disability, impairment, lameness, poor health, shakiness, instability etc
1 Corinthians 12:1-12 lists the Gifts of the Spirit
1 Cor 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.
The Corinthians misunderstood the manner in which the Holy Spirit works through individuals, and they abused the use of the Spiritual Gifts. You don’t have to blurt out every thought or impression of the spirit. There can be a time and a place for its use. Wisdom and discernment is required. You will know if there is an urgency in the spirit.
1 Cor 14:32 They saw the operation of spiritual gifts as a compulsive possession. Hence the scripture “And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets”
Subject meaning; to stand under, it suggests subordination, obedience, submission, subjection etc.
1 Cor 13 Paul shows the need for loving and unselfish motives in these manifestations, and the need for self control including an orderly edifying manner in corporate service.
God reveals His abundant mercy to men in giving to his church the power to alleviate suffering.
Everyone has been given a measure of faith. Like a muscle, it will grow when it is used. The bible refers to talents also. He expects increase. We need to step out in faith and see it grow. Believe it or not, WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD.
But when it comes to Spiritual Gifts, God encourages us to covet these gifts, exercise them. He put them there for all of us!! God’s nature is higher than human nature. He shares the power and wants us to use it.
