Today's items of the day are the work of our resident toy maker Sheila D. These two little toys were made using a knitting machine and are just so cute. The first is a little teddy complete with clothes and was oohed and aahed over by nearly everyone in our meeting. The second , which I thought was a clown until I looked closely, is actually a tradesman complete with knitted tools of the trade. We don't know who Sheila has made these for but they will be very lucky to have them.

More Sashiko stitching has been combined into a lovely Autumn toned table runner this time by Lee H. Lee bought this kit from a Craft Alive show a while back and decided it was time it was made in to something. She combined her hand stitching skills with her machine stitching talent and this is the result. The piping between the Sashiko and the primary border really defined the stitchery and her use of the same fabric for the binding provided the perfect frame for her piece.

Member Lola K often contributes to our community stash with quilts but this quilt showed us that Lola has talents in other fields too. She made this single bed size, hand stitched Sashiko quilt and few years ago which took her nearly six years to complete and up close you can see why. The Sashiko stitches are near perfect and because she took her time the workmanship really shows. Some delicate quilting was done to keep the quilt sandwich together and Lola finished it off with binding that coordinated with the sashing that joins the blocks together. I heard lots of nice comments when it was up for show and tell.

Helen G made two baby quilts, one for a premature baby cot and the other a regular sized cot, using fabrics donated by other members and some of her own stash. Helen used a different block to create another version of the I Spy quilt, so loved by recipients, as they are fun to look over and find their favourite squares. Audrey N donated the backings that Helen used to complete the quilts and she did all her own quilting and binding. Today is our first Saturday of the month Community sewing day at our clubrooms on Glenvale Road and you would be welcome to join us. We meet inside the Toowoomba Community Baptist Church Hall from 9am and we have lots of little jobs that can be done to help or you can simple do some sewing of your own or just socialise with the ladies in attendance.

June P made two baby quilts for our community quilters stash. One is perfect for the premature baby cot and the other is definitely for a large hospital baby cot. June chose lots of different scraps of fabrics which will appeal to a child who needs a quilt while in hospital which will help distract him or her from the stress of their illness. Both quilts are now in the stash awaiting their labels. Once again June has completely constructed the quilt and did her own quilting and binding. If you think you would like to help make similar items (or lots of other little jobs or do your own sewing) we are having our Saturday Community Quilters meeting tomorrow. We meet at the Toowoomba Community Baptist Church Hall on Glenvale Road commencing at 9am and you would be very welcome.

This darling little snuggle rug was crocheted by our member Gayle A. It is a little cow and has the sweetest little face which can also act as a pillow for its owner. Gayle made it just for fun but we think she did a fantastic job of it and envy the new owner.

Renae B finished her version of the Mystery quilt from last year and it was worth the wait. Set by (our now President) Genell, this years (2025) quilt featured half square triangles and a very scrappy colour palette which was a challenge to our ladies many of which had not made a scrappy quilt before. It has turned out beautifully and was quilted by fellow member Betty F. We particularly like Renae's choice of backing which coordinates really well with her scrappy colour choice.

Lola K made this fantastic tractor quilt for her niece living in Tasmania to give to her niece's grandson. All Lola was asked to provide was something with tractors and this panel quilt fit the bill. Combined with borders of the same colour as the tractor and quilted with fluffy clouds we think Lola matched her nieces request to the letter.

Talented member Gayle A has made these two very creative items as competition entries. The crocheted items are heading off to the Alice Springs Art Gallery as her pieces in the category for hand made items. One is a very intriguing Witches hat and the other is and Alice in Wonderland Themed tea-pot cosy. We wish Gayle the best of luck in her endeavours but we are biased in thinking she has it in the bag.
