Paul turns from focusing on the command for wives to submit to their husbands, to the really controversial command in this passage from Ephesians. Yes, you read that right. The real controversy in this passage, the real politically incorrect thing to say, is what Paul says to husbands. They are to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Come on Sunday morning and discover what this means in a marriage relationship. But more than that, come and discover the beauty of all it means that Christ loves his church.

Our brother Jin will be leading our evening GROW service. We are up to part 9 of our Sojourners and Exiles series - "Arm Yourselves". To follow Christ, Peter says, we must arm ourselves. But this is not a call to carry earthly weapons. Instead, we arm ourselves with a new way of thinking. The willingness to suffer for others exists only in those whose lives are not dominated by sin. In this lesson, Dr. Ferguson explains how Christians must think rightly about themselves and what Christ has done to free them from sin.

In this text from Ephesians, we find one of the most controversial commands in the Bible - "Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord." For nearly two thousand years this wasn't controversial at all. What happened? What does the command actually mean? What doesn't it mean? What does it matter anyway how roles are structured in marriage? Come on Sunday morning and discover the beauty of submission in the Christian life.

In our evening service, Ps. Andrew is continuing his series in the Psalms. In Psalm 4 we find David calling to the Lord in his distress. The interesting thing about this Psalm is that in it we could say that David prays on the street corner. He wants people to hear his prayer. In particular, he wants to correct the poor attitudes of those around him. We will learn from this Psalm not only how to pray, but where to find our joy in our troubles. We are directed to the true source of joy, a joy that transcends our circumstances.

We live in a hypersexualised world. The good gift of sexual intimacy that God has given to a husband and wife in the context of the covenant of marriage, has been debased and misused. The gospel of this world is that true freedom is found in removing all boundaries and all limits on sexual intimacy. This worldly gospel can be tempting for Christians. Paul shows us a better way in this passage from Ephesians. He shows us how we are to live for Jesus in this sexually confused world. Join us to find out more!

Our evening GROW service will be led by our brother Ed van der Velde. We are up to part 8 of our Sojourners and Exile series, entitled "Blessing our Enemies". Christians are called to be different from the world. But this difference allows us to be a blessing to the world. Our different lifestyle shows Christ to the world, especially as we respond to hostility with grace and love. In this lesson, Dr. Ferguson shows how the gospel enables us to bless not only each other but even the enemies of Christ.

In these verses from Ephesians, Paul commands believers to be filled with the Spirit. There are all kinds of ideas floating around today about what being filled with the spirit actually looks like. Something extraordinary. Something just too hard to define. However, in these verses Paul clearly states what a spirit filled person actually looks like. His teaching will be rather surprising. If you want to know what the spirit is really doing in a believer, come along on Sunday morning to find out more.

In our evening service we are in Psalm 3 - where David finds himself in the midst of trouble! There are troubles everywhere David looks. He provides us with the model of what a believer can do when they find themselves in trouble. We discover the security and peace a believer is able to find when trouble arises. This security and peace is available to all who trust in Jesus. Come and discover the hope and strength we can find in all troubles.

Paul is continuing to flesh out what is looks like to live out the Christian pattern of life - to put off the old man, and put on the new. He's getting into the nitty gritty of what it means to live for Jesus. In particular he's getting into the nitty gritty of what it means to live for Jesus in our relationships in the church. He touches on some very touchy topics. As we will hear in the preaching this Sunday morning, the content matter might be a little painful for us to consider, but the aim is to make us more like Jesus is true righteousness and holiness. In other words, the pain is worth it for the gain of being conformed to the likeness of Jesus. Come and find out what this looks like!

Our brother Ben Mitchell will lead our evening service, when we will continue with our Sojourners and Exile series. Our next lesson is called "Returning to Eden". Peter teaches that the gospel works in every situation. It calls for brotherly love in the church and submission in society. Peter shows how gospel service shapes marriage—the original human society. In this lesson, Dr. Ferguson explains that submission in the home for the sake of Christ, even when one’s spouse is not a Christian, can bring glory to Christ and advance the gospel.

After Paul has finished giving us the pattern of the Christian life - put off the old man, put on the new man - he begins to give us the practice of the Christian life. He shows us how this pattern is to work itself out in all the details of our lives. In particular in these verses from Ephesians, he addresses our speech and our anger. It's not just in big sacrifices and in grand public gestures that we can live for Jesus. It's in the ordinary and some would say routine areas of life we need to live for Jesus. Come and find out how this Sunday morning!

In our evening service, we will be looking at Psalm 2. This psalm describes the sad reality of a world in rebellion against God. It is the world the Psalmist lives in, but it's also the world we inhabit. Where many seek to cast off the rule of God and the rule of his anointed son. We sometimes despair that we live in a world like this. The Psalm teaches us to broaden our horizons and hear God's perspective on the rebellion in this world. As we hear God's perspective on world events, we are given great confidence and hope to face the future.

We all know there are patterns in life. There's the pattern a worship service will follow. The pattern you follow in mathematical equations. There is also a pattern to living the Christian life. Once we have trusted in Jesus as Saviour and Lord, there is a certain pattern to our living that emerges. Ephesians calls this our walk. So, what should the walk of every Christian look like? It should look like putting off the old self and putting on the new. It is the pattern of the Christian life. Join us on Sunday morning to find out more.

In our evening service, our brother Rick will lead us in the next chapter of our Sojourners and Exiles series called "Living in Two Worlds". Christians live in two worlds. We are citizens of heaven, but we are still on earth. We are called to love our brothers and sisters in the church, but Christ also calls us to serve Him in our vocations in the world. In this lesson, Dr. Ferguson helps us understand that through the gospel, we are servants and yet free in Christ as we live within the broken structures of earthly society.

We come to end of Jesus series of parables on the kingdom of heaven this Sunday morning. We've been learning how Jesus' kingdom is just not what was expected of a glorious kingdom. In the parable of the net Jesus speaks of the terrible separation that will occur on the last day. In the parable of the storeroom, we are reminded what a great treasure of the gospel we have to reveal to the world. Both of these parables help us to be faithful Christian disciples. But what is the relationship between this fishing story and the storeroom filled with treasure? Come and find out!

In our evening service, we will be looking at Psalm 1. One of the searching questions we are all faced with as human being is, am I getting life right? Am I living well? Am I living the life I'm supposed to live and fulfilling the purpose for which I've been made. There are lots of voices today which tell us what getting life right looks like. Most of them should be ignored. Here at the start of the Psalter, God tells us what getting life right looks like. It's a magnificent description of what is called the 'blessed man' who lives just the way he is supposed to live. What does this teach us about how we should live? How can this help us get life right.

Who doesn't like a good treasure hunt? Finding a secret map, following the clues, and eventually digging up some hidden treasure of inestimable worth. Young kids dream about it. We watch movies and documentaries on the theme. And some of us even become modern day treasurer hunters looking for some valuable antique in the op shops or searching out a hidden gem on marketplace. Jesus teaches that his kingdom is like a hidden treasure. Why? How? What does it mean for us? Come and find out on Sunday morning!

Our brother Ben will lead our evening service. We are up to the 5th installment of our Sojourners and Exiles series - "The Royal Family". The church is God’s family, and it grows together in brotherly love. But why? What is the church for? Peter says that the church is God’s temple, chosen race, royal priesthood, and holy nation. In this lesson, Dr. Ferguson shows how these images, all drawn from the Old Testament, teach us that God’s purpose for His people is to reflect His glory.

The popular expectation at the time of Jesus was that when the kingdom of Messiah came, it would grow explosively and powerfully. Jesus is correcting that expectation in our text from Matthew. He's showing us what the unexpected growth of his kingdom will be like. Join us on Sunday morning to find out more!

We've been considering the doctrine of election for a number of weeks, and we come to our final topic on evangelism this Sunday evening. How do evangelism and election fit together? Some might conclude that given God chooses those who will believe, we lose all evangelistic zeal. However, we will discover that our belief in election ought to fuel our evangelistic zeal.
