One of the ways we see the Bibles pervasive impact in our society is in the biblical phrases we use every day. We speak of 'the writing on the wall' (from Daniel), 'putting your house in order' (from Kings), and we talk about people who 'can walk on water'. By this we mean they can do extraordinary things. In our text from Matthew, Jesus does something more than extraordinary. He literally walks on water. He does this in order to reveal to us his true identity. What is it? He also wants us to learn about discipleship. What do we learn about discipleship through Peter's attempts to walk on water? Come and find out what we learn about Jesus and about how to follow Jesus this Sunday morning!

In our evening service, our brother Rick will lead lesson in our Samson series - "The Promise of Samson". When we think of Samson, first and foremost, we need to think of him as one set apart unto the Lord. Samson's renowned strength can only be secondary to the call of holiness upon his life. In this lesson, Dr. Godfrey creates a character sketch of Samson's parents upon their receiving the promise of his birth and outlines the express instruction they received to consecrate him to the Lord.

Pastor Andrew will be leading both our services this coming Sunday! In our morning worship, we will be continuing in our Matthew series. One of the most well-known of Jesus' miracles is the feeding of the 5000. Although Matthew gives a very short account of the story, it is rich in truth. Matthew doesn't actually provide us with a theological interpretation of the event like the gospel of John does, but do we see some very important things about Jesus and the glory of his character. Come and discover what they are with us.

In our evening services, we are continuing in the book of Psalm. Sometimes we can fear what the world will look like in the years to come. We live in uncertain times. The Christian church is often under attack. The world seems out of control. The Psalmist anchors his life on the truth that in the midst of this every changing world the Lord is on his eternal throne. In particular he draws out what this means in terms of judgment. There will be judgment against those who oppose God and they will face the just judge. There will be judgement for those who love the Lord and in the midst of all the uncertainties they will find protection and care in the Lord. Come and find out how this Psalm encourages us in all our troubles to find comfort in the fact that the Lord is on his throne.

We have the privilege of welcoming Pastor Craig van Echten to the pulpit to lead us in worship. Pastor Craig serves the congregation in Inala and will lead us in an exposition of Genesis 30 as we consider how to live and work by faith.

In our evening service we will continue our GROW services by Dr Godfrey on the story of Samson. We will be looking at the need for Samson and the office of judge. Just as Israel's need for the office of judge pointed to Israel's need for a king, so Israel's need for Samson pointed to an even greater spiritual need. In this lesson, Dr. Godfrey highlights the major themes in Samson's story, allowing us to see the story's big picture while at the same time focusing our attention on the story's opening scene.

In this text we find one of the more gory passages of the Bible, which contains the kinds of things you might expect on a B-grade late evening soap opera. It is not pretty reading to hear of the litany of adultery and the beheading of an innocent man. We might wonder what this is doing in the Bible. Join us on Sunday morning to discover what this text teaches us about the conscience, about discipleship, and about the blessed Saviour Jesus Christ.

In our evening service, Ps. Andrew will be continuing with his Psalm series. Psalm 8 starts with an exclamation of praise to God. The Psalmist is inviting us to join with him in praise of the majestic name of God. Come and discover some of the surprising reasons we are given to join in praise of God.

We are used to the hometown hero receiving a hero's welcome. When Jesus returns to his hometown of Nazareth, we discover that he receives nothing of the sort. Rather, he causes great offense. The people are amazed at Jesus, but they certainly won't put their faith in Jesus. We see will see in these verses one of the reasons that people won't trust in Christ. But we all also see the amazing humility of Jesus who comes to his own, but his own will not receive him. Join us on Sunday morning to find out more!

In our evening service, we will be watching the second lesson from our new series on the life of Samson called "The Need for Judges". God instituted the office of judge to help Israel in her state of spiritual decline. Israel's continued decline even during this period reveals the intent behind the book of Judges, which functions as a treatise on Israel's need for a king. In this lesson, Dr. Godfrey places the book of Judges within its context in the Bible to further develop our understanding of the book’s final judge, Samson.

Pastor Andrew is having a well-deserved break this week so our brother Rev. Bill Wiersma will be leading us in worship on Sunday morning, bringing us the word and message from the gospel of John.

Br. Nathan Bouchier will be leading our evening service. We will be staring a new series on the life of Samson by Dr Robert Godfrey. A man of incredible physical strength and debilitating moral weakness, Samson was nevertheless God’s instrument to rescue Israel from the Philistines during the era of the judges. In light of these contrasts, we are faced with this key question: What, exactly, are we to make of Samson and his place in the Lord’s purposes? In this series, we will consider the life of Samson and explore what this judge tells us about Christian living.

The first lesson is the series is "The Riddle of Samson". Samson is a puzzling character. What are we to make of him? Is he an example of faith or disobedience—or both? The English poet John Milton called Samson a "mirror of our fickle state." We will consider the reasons why the story of Samson deserves close examination and his place in the context of the book of Judges.

As Paul comes to the end of his instructions about the spiritual conflict Christians are to engage in, he speaks about our most vital weapon. It is perhaps more accurate to say that this is the tool that makes all the other weaponry effective. Paul is talking about prayer. He gives us some of the most comprehensive instruction about prayer found in the entire Bible. On Sunday morning, we will explore what prayer ought to look like for all Christians in general, and then we find the most remarkable prayer requests that Paul asks for himself. Come and discover how to be equipped to pray so that we might engage more effectively in our spiritual battle.

In our evening service, we come to the end of the Sojourners and Exiles series with the final lesson - "Bound for Glory". Throughout his letter, Peter has offered counsel to churches enduring suffering. They are sojourners and exiles in a pagan society, and this had led to trials. Now, he reminds them that behind everything is an enemy that wants to destroy them. But God’s purpose for them, as it was for Jesus, is to bring them into glory. In this final lesson, Dr. Ferguson explains how only a true view of God enables us to entrust ourselves to Him, which is how we reach the glory that He has prepared for us.

Join us on Sunday morning, when Pastor Andrew will be continuing his "Living for Jesus" series. In these verses from Ephesians, Paul is speaking about the spiritual conflict that every single Christian is swept up into. Paul has told us about the terrain on which we fight and warned us of the danger and wickedness of our great enemies. In verses 14-17 he outlines the tremendous resources we are given to fight in the spiritual war. We have been given the complete armour of God. A comprehensive defensive mechanism for Christian under threat - our very own Iron Dome. It's important to realise that Paul is not telling us to harden up and take a concrete pill, he saying to us that in Christ, we have all we need to fight against the devils lies and schemes. Our Saviour is an all-sufficient Saviour, and we see this also in the provision he makes for us to withstand the kingdom of darkness.

In our evening service, both Pastor Andrew and our brother Jin Kim will be leading our worship, continuing in the Psalms. In this psalm, David faces false accusations and is crushed under the weight of them. He takes this burden to God and leaves it at his feet. In particular, he appeals to God's justice to vindicate him as he has not done anything wrong. He makes the rather puzzling request for God to judge him in his righteousness. We wonder who David, who has done much wrong, can appeal to his righteousness as a basis of judgement. What does this mean? How does this point us to Christ? How does this help us when we are falsely accused? Come and find out on Sunday night.

The Bible conceives of the Christian life as a perpetual war. We are in a spiritual battle 24/7. It is the battle that has been raging since Genesis 3:15. We need to be reminded we're in a battle, because often the Christian life is conceived of more like a resort holiday than a deadly war. In this text from Ephesians, Paul is equipping us for the battle. He explains the terrain upon which the war takes place, as well as the spiritual forces of evil we face. We are being taught how to live for Jesus in the great war. Join us to find out more!

In our evening service, our brother Ben will lead us in the second last chapter of our Sojourners and Exiles series - "Shepherds Who Show the Way". Christ has appointed certain men to watch over His people. These shepherds, called elders, have a special responsibility for supporting and guiding Christ’s sheep. For that reason, they have an important role in helping the church endure suffering. In this lesson, Dr. Ferguson shows how Peter saw himself as one of these shepherds and urged elders to serve and suffer for Christ’s sheep willingly.

On Sunday morning, we will see that in this part of Paul's instruction to the church, he speaks into the lives of both slaves and slave masters. Paul is showing us how the gospel speaks even into the most difficult and demeaning of circumstances. It is possible to live for Jesus even as a slave. The text is not, of course, just for slaves. It has much to say to us in our own workplaces, teaching us what it means to serve Jesus there.

In our evening service, Ps. Andrew continues his series in Psalms. David sings in Psalm 6 about his deep sorrows. If we were to put it in a musical genre, we'd say he is singing the blues. We learn here how to sing the blues as Christians. We see in this text a glimpse of how Jesus sang the blues in his sufferings upon earth. But we also find the ultimate remedy for our blues.
