A Word from Pastor Bunch…
When I pause and look back over the years, I cannot help but lift heart up in praise and thanks to The Lord for all He has wrought on our behalf! Four times in Psalm 107 the Psalmist called out to the people: “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for h
is wonderful works to the children of men!”
I put out that call again! God has been good to Garden City Baptist Church over years! It is my desire that, as you visit with us and view the work of our Great God in our midst, that your heart will also be caused to offer up praise to Him Who lives forever and ever! As you sit through one of our services, and watch the day unfold, try and look beyond these temporal ‘things’ and see the LIVES that God has touched through it all! Therein lies the true reason to give thanks and praise to God. Remember – Buildings don’t change people, but what happens inside them does! Our Heritage:
Garden City Baptist Church was founded by Pastor Bob Bartlett on August 13, 2000, holding its first service in a rented building located at 100 Herries Street. Over the next couple of years, The Lord blessed and it wasn’t long before we had outgrown the usable space in that building. The Lord opened up another building located at 43 Jones Street, where for the past 7 years we have met. A lot of work went into preparing 43 Jones Street for worship, and so many memories will linger with us of those labours, souls saved, and people rescued from the chains of sin. Then in March 2011, The Lord brought to our attention this location: 601 Bridge Street. At first, it seemed such a building was beyond our reach, beyond our ability to obtain. But as with our Great God, what many times seems impossible to us is very possible with Him! For “…with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
Words could not express the excitement that filled the air when God opened the door
for us to buy our first building. Everyone was on the edge of their seats in anticipation as we watched the miracle unfold. Every day since then has seen a labouring of love and a yearning to see this miracle fulfilled, and today we give testimony through your very presence here that Our God is faithful! Lamentations 3:23
Our Future:
You may be wondering what our direction for the future is? Just recently I was asked by a research company what I thought was the most important issue facing Australia? The answer to both these questions is what has steered us over the years to this point, and will continue to steer us into the future. You see, a Church is not a building; it is a special fellowship of believers who want to be disciples of Jesus Christ. It is a Christian family in which there is always an extra seat at the table for one more. Our Mission is the Great Commission – to reach the World with the Good News that Jesus is not willing that ANY should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance! We are not about buildings, we are about people! Ephesians 4:16 tells us, “From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.” An
d back in Verse 13, “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”
Our goal for the future? We don’t want to be ‘just another church’! We want to truly offer people the opportunity of A New Beginning in Christ, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being…”! I count it a great privilege and honour to be the pastor of this wonderful congregation and I
