Three years on from that very first meeting at the Carina Bowls Club, where more than 200 women came together to share their ideas and vision, it was amazing to see our community come together once more at the Bowls Club to celebrate the official sod-turning for the Carina Women’s Shed.

As the Lord Mayor said, this shed will have a profound impact on our community. It will be a place where women support women, build friendships, develop confidence, learn new skills and create meaningful connections.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner was instrumental in making this project a reality by contributing $450,000 towards the project.

Yesterday was a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together behind a shared vision.

It's for women and the broader community to come together and be.

So proud of Cr Lisa Atwood and her team, supporters and all she is. Well done 👏

🎉🌴 Happy Queensland Day! 🌞🐨

Today, we celebrate everything that makes our Sunshine State so special - our stunning landscapes, rich history, and, of course, the amazing people who call Queensland home. But do you know the story behind Queensland Day?

On 6 June 1859, Queensland officially separated from New South Wales and became its own colony. It’s a day that marks our independence and identity!

Grab a lamington, soak up the sunshine, and celebrate Queensland pride today! 🎂🌊

At the Tingalpa Pioneers’ Chapel and Cemetery last Saturday morning, we held Australian Heritage Festival and an open day at the God's little acre.

Queensland Maritime Museum including the The Pearling Lugger Penguin Restoration Project team, was kept busy providing information and answering many questions about our rich maritime history, especially the Penguin Restoration Project.

John Hockings spread the history of the Torres Strait Pearling Story magnificently and

Russell Cobine gave a speech on what the QMM, Lugger boat was all about.

The weather was just perfect for strolling around the splendid grounds and gardens.

The Wynnum “Woodies” Bayside Woodturners & Woodcrafters Club display was an interactive moment, as was the local beekeepers' stall Bayside Beekeepers supporting a great cause.

The harmonious Momentum kept everyone entertained with wonderful music off and on during the morning.

Benjamin Gall from Australian Heritage elaborated on the history of the Parish of Tingalpa in 1868 when the bush chapel was built.

The Woodies unveiled the new totem poles they made, representing the Traditional Custodians, our community, Anglican church and the unmarked graves within the cemetery.

A project nominated for the national trust award coming on 20th may. National Trust of Australia Queensland

Appreciation certificates were handed out, while we announced more life members and acknowledged the adopt a graves program, which is increasing with numerous care givers coming on board, joining the program. Neil Thyer thanks for your efforts.

A fabulous morning tea was provided and spreading the word about this hidden bit of paradise hidden away at 1341 Wynnum Road kept everyone entertained and smiling. Margaret Matters Loiss Loiss are living legends. ❤️

A great day was had and fund-raising began for the CCTV works to the site.

Thank you for all attended, donated, sent messages of support and showed care throughout our times together.

Thank YOU

Open Day at Tingalpa Pioneers’ Chapel and Cemetery Saturday 9 May 2026 9am - Ipm

We would like to bring to your attention the Open Day held at this quaint little heritage-listed Tingalpa Pioneers’ Chapel and cemetery, which is affectionately known as “God’s Little Acre,” on Saturday, 9th May.

The Queensland Maritime Museum feels a close connection to this beautiful church and its immaculate, well kept grounds, as they established this sacred site in 1868, a mere 26 years after what was then known as the Moreton Bay District was opened up to free settlement.

And because of this, our maritime history museum will play a part in this special occasion by QMM and our The Pearling Lugger Penguin Restoration Project team.

When wandering around and seeing names of ships on headstones, you can’t help imagining what it must have been like coming to their new homes in the sparsely populated area from the other side of the world

A big percentage of the chapel's “family” were emigrants from England.

When the Anglican church (Church of England) and cemetery was established there was only bush with just a dirt track where these days high speed cars race along the busy road now named Wynnum Road.

Although not a practicing chapel, it now can be rented out and is popular for weddings.

It is still owned by the Anglican religion and is cared for and managed by the “Friends of Tingalpa Cemetery Heritage Group.” So please mark it on your calendar and come along for a very interesting and fun time at this wonderful little oasis nestled beside Smith's Chips.

Plenty of parking is available at Smith's Chips next door, which has a very close relationship with the little bush church.
