Tonight our parish community gathered with Bishop Joe in celebration as we welcomed new members into the fullness of the Catholic faith through the Sacraments of Initiation.

Candidates took this important step in their faith journey, supported by their families, sponsors, and our parish community.

We give thanks to God for each of them and pray that the Holy Spirit continues to guide and strengthen them as they grow in faith and discipleship.

Please keep our newly initiated brothers and sisters in your prayers!

Wonderful day on Kirriri 🌿

Today on Kirriri, our parish family gathered as one to celebrate the Feast of St Joseph the Worker 🙏

This day holds special significance for our Hammond Island community, where St Joseph is the patron saint and the church proudly bears his name ⛪ It was a fitting and meaningful way to honour St Joseph the Worker, recognising his example of faith, humility and the dignity of labour 🔨

Parishioners came together from Horn Island, Thursday Island and Hammond Island, united in prayer and celebration 🤝 Tools of trade and vehicles were blessed 🚗🛠️, a powerful reminder to place our daily work in God’s hands and to serve with purpose and integrity.
The celebration was filled with joyful singing 🎶, strong community spirit and, of course, plenty of good food shared together 🍽️

A wonderful witness to who we are as a parish: many communities, one faith, grounded in service, unity and love ❤️

You are warmly invited to join the Hammond Island community this Sunday, 3rd May as we celebrate the Feast of St Joseph the Worker, a special and meaningful day for our parish and school community.
✨ Did you know?
The Hammond Island school was originally named St Joseph’s before becoming part of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart school campus, making this feast day especially connected to our local history.
🙏 About the Feast
This day honours St Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, whose life reminds us that true greatness is often found in the small, faithful acts we do each day. In a world that measures worth by success and status, St Joseph teaches us that dignity comes from honest work, quiet service, and a heart offered to God. Whatever our tasks, big or small, seen or unseen, they have value when done with love.

Together for Our Community Home – Interfaith Prayer Vigil

You are warmly invited to join us as we gather as one community in prayer.

Together, we will pray for our Earth and for all those who are suffering due to rising sea levels and extreme weather. In particular, we will hold in prayer the communities of the Torres Strait Islands, Palm Island, the Kimberley, and our Pacific neighbours.
