Amid the storms of life, some say we’re all in the same boat, but in reality each of us is in our own boat … with our own struggles, fears, challenges, sadness and joy. There is nobody else living that fully knows our unique and very personal experience. Nobody, that is, except for Jesus, the risen Christ … if we ask him, he will step into our boat and ride through the storm with us, understanding our every thought and emotion, calming our fears and offering us hope. And if we invite him, we need to trust him … if we trust him, he will be with us always. Come along this Sunday and find out more about this ever-present Jesus as we hear from our guest preacher, Rev Dr Peter Walker, General Secretary of the Uniting Church Synod of NSW&ACT.

Before they were called Christians, the first followers of Jesus were known as People of the Way. This Sunday we will hold our third youth-focused service, continuing our series, People of the Way, which takes place on the last Sunday of every month. So far we’ve looked at the nature of the Trinity, whose Way we follow; and the concept of sin and the consequences for not following God’s Way. Now it’s time to turn our attention to the Kingdom of God … the destination if you like … and we’ll do that by delving deeper into several short New Testament parables. During our service this morning, thoughtfully curated and led by Rev Robyn Lyons, we marked the close of this year’s NAIDOC Week with the dedication of a newly purchased Indigenous artwork. “Seven Days of Creation”, by Indigenous artist Safina Stewart will hang in the worship space and, along with the more contemporary series of images by Aunty Fern Martins which hang in the foyer, will stand as a sign of welcome and reconciliation. Through storytelling, song and prayer, we reflected on our journey as a congregation with a heart for justice and a willingness to act, before proud Wiradjuri woman Mikenzie Ling prayed over all gathered, "… Great Spirit, Mudyigaali, bless us, the holders of knowledge and keepers of stories of First Peoples, and bless us as Second Peoples who walk alongside and hold hands in your great communion, your great kinship. Amen."
