St Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church - Melbourne

St Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church - Melbourne Welcome to the Official page of St Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church - Melbourne, Australia. We ask you to keep our parish in your prayers!

Our Church is part of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Melbourne, which is under the guidance and auspices of His Grace Bishop Rewis. St Mark’s Church has joyfully been a part of the City of Darebin since December 1974 when the late Fr Victor Rophael OAM of blessed memory, established Melbourne's second Coptic Orthodox parish under the name of St Mark in the suburb of Northcote at a rented bluestone

Uniting Church on High St. The parish stayed there and outgrew the space until August 1986, when a parcel of land was purchased on Gilbert Rd, Preston to construct the first built Coptic Orthodox Church in Victoria. Construction was completed in July 1990 and the late His Holiness Pope Shenouda III of blessed memory, together with six visiting Bishops consecrated the newly built church on Sunday 24 February 1991. Since then our parish has grown and flourished and continued to engage with the local and wider community through many renown annual community festivals and weekly food drives for the poor and underprivileged within the City of Darebin.

Through the grace and blessings of God, on Wednesday 10 June 2026, our Parish was honoured to welcome Mr Evan Mulholland MP, Liberal Member for the Northern Metropolitan Region, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party in the Legislative Council, and Shadow Minister for Multicultural and Multifaith Affairs, together with his Electorate Officer, Mrs Bernadette Khoury JP.

Mr Mulholland’s visit and sincere attention to our Parish was warmly received by our Parish Board and our beloved seniors during their weekly Heavenly Hosts Fellowship. It was a blessed opportunity for our seniors to meet with Mr Mulholland and Mrs Khoury, and to share in a time of fellowship and conversation.

Following the visit with the seniors, Mr Mulholland and Mrs Khoury were given a tour of the Church, during which gifts were also exchanged as a token of appreciation and friendship.

We warmly thank Mr Mulholland and Mrs Khoury for their gracious visit, kindness and ongoing support. May God bless and reward them always!

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” - Psalm 118:1

With thanksgiving to our gracious and loving God, our Parish extends its heartfelt appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the Egyptian Family Fair 2026.

Over the course of the weekend of 23-24 May, our Parish grounds were filled with joy, fellowship, service and the beautiful spirit of community. It was a blessed reminder that the light of Christ continues to shine through the love, unity and dedication of His people.

We sincerely thank every member of our congregation, every volunteer, every family and every supporter who gave so generously of their time, effort and talents. From preparation and cooking, to serving, organising, welcoming guests, assisting with activities, cleaning and working behind the scenes, each contribution played an important part in making the weekend a truly memorable occasion.

This year’s Fair marked a new record in the history of our Family Fair. Yet above all, its success is measured not simply by what was achieved, but by the spirit in which it was achieved: with love, humility, unity and service for the glory of God.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the beloved Clergy of the Diocese who attended and shared in the joy of the weekend with us. Their presence was a great blessing and encouragement to our Parish family.

We were also honoured by the warm visit of Imam Alaa El Zokm OAM, Imam of the El Sedeaq Mosque in Heidelberg, together with his family. We thank them sincerely for their kind presence and for sharing in this special community occasion.

A special word of appreciation is extended to our children and youth who served with such joy and enthusiasm throughout the Fair. Their love for service and their willingness to contribute reflect a bright and blessed future for the coming generations of our Church.

May God bless and reward every person who served, supported, attended and contributed in any way. We pray that the love and unity witnessed throughout this blessed weekend may continue to strengthen our Parish family and bear witness to Christ in our wider community!

Today, we commemorate the 5th anniversary of the passing of the late Archdeacon Boktor Bassillios, of blessed memory, who departed in 2020 at the blessed age of 103.

Archdeacon Boktor was a silent pillar within our Parish, whose faithful service, humility and love touched the hearts of all who knew him. His memory remains deeply cherished and shall never be forgotten.

May the Lord repose his pure soul in the Paradise of Joy, and may his memory be eternal!
