All invited! St. Ignatius' Catholic Church, Yerong Creek - Closing Celebration

The local parish is planning to have a closing celebration this Sunday at St Ignatius Church. This will be an opportunity to thank God for the many blessings he has bestowed on His people there since 1886; to finalise our use of the property in preparation for hand over; and to launch out into the future with faith, hope and love with the people of Yerong Creek.

The details planned for the closing celebration are as follows:

Time/Date: 4.30 p.m. Sunday 23 November 2025
Venue: St. Ignatius' Catholic Church, 41 Plunkett Street, Yerong Creek.
Format:
4.30 p.m. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
4.35 p.m. Vespers (Evening Prayer)
5.05 p.m. Rosary followed by Benediction
5.30 p.m. Address by Bishop Edwards and Parish Priest Fr Darlow
6.00 p.m. Dinner with tables of shared food organised & removal of pews for seating. The meal is an opportunity for stories of the past and sharing memorabilia (e.g. photos)
7.00 p.m. Closure of the Church

What to Bring:
A plate of food to share
Photos or other memorabilia connected to the church or Catholic life at Yerong Creek.

Hi All,

The funeral arrangements for Fr Peter Thompson CM are as follows:

A Vigil will be held at St Michael's Cathedral on Sunday 6th July at 7:00pm. This will not be a Mass, but the Vigil from the Book for Christian Burial.

A Requiem Mass for the Repose of the Soul of Fr Peter Thompson CM will be held at St Michael's Cathedral on Monday 7 July 2025 at 2:00pm. Most Rev Mark Edwards OMI will be the Principal Celebrant.

Burial will take place at the Portland Cemetery (Bathurst Diocese), in Fr Thompson's family plot, at a date and time to be determined.

Well done to the Men of St Mary's Team who won the hotly contested Tug-Of-War competition at The Rock Show Today - and the crowd was amazing, what a blast! The team who won the juniors section, which included kids from as far afield as Junee and Shepparton, was also primarily made up of St Mary's parishioners, well done kids!

What’s happening in our parish outside the liturgy so far for 2023?

- St Vincent De Paul group
- Legion of Mary junior and senior groups
- Mums and Bubs playgroup
- Homeschool co-op on Fridays
- Parish parents offering Latin language, maths, science and Irish dance classes
- Zelie craft nights
- Book club
- Ladies tennis Monday nights
- 31 Club

And a little further afield St Mary’s men can be found playing cricket with the Papal Bulls in Wagga and attending the diocesan St Joseph’s men’s group.
