MONDAY 2 FEBRUARY
The Fast of Nineveh (The Fast of Repentance)
โSo the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.โ
(Jonah 3:5)
Let us reflect today on the men of the Holy Bibleโฆ
What would they say to us now?
Beloved,
imagine with me if the men of Scripture were standing among us today.
What counsel would they give us?
From Adam to John the Baptist,
let us hear not the words of men,
but the testimonies of hearts that have known
the fall, repentance, suffering, and victory.
First: Lessons from the Men of the Old Testament
Adam stands before us and says:
Do not sacrifice obedience to God to please anyone,
for the price of disobedience is the loss of His presence.
Cain cries out:
Beware of jealousy,
for sin is crouching at the door.
Noah testifies:
When God speaks, obeyโeven if you do not understand,
for an ark built on dry land became the way of salvation.
Abraham says:
Do not rush.
God is never lateโHe comes in the perfect time.
Jacob advises us:
This world is a journey.
Do not let your heart cling to what is passing.
Joseph the chaste proclaims:
Faithfulness in secret produces glory in public,
and fleeing from sin opens the door to Godโs calling.
Moses the prophet says:
Do not fear the sea before you,
for God makes a way where there is no way.
Samson warns us:
Do not take your gift lightly,
for the enemy attacks you where God has anointed you.
David whispers:
Even after falling,
repentance brings the heart back to God.
Jonah declares:
You cannot run away from God,
but you can return to Him from anywhere.
Second: Testimonies from the Men of the New Testament
Peter the Apostle says:
Failure is not the end of the roadโ
grace restores us and makes us strong.
Thomas testifies:
Do not be afraid of doubt,
but come close to the wounds of Christ.
Matthew the tax collector says:
Christ does not see your pastโ
He sees your calling.
Paul the Apostle cries out:
Nothing is stronger than grace,
which turns a persecutor into an apostle.
Stephen proclaims:
Forgiveness in suffering
opens heaven.
John the Beloved whispers:
Whoever knows how to love
has known God.
Mary Magdalene testifies:
The one who is forgiven much
loves much.
The thief on the right cries out:
It is never too late
as long as Jesus is near and in your heart.
And in the end,
all the men of Scripture speak with one voice:**
Come to Christ as you are,
and He will not leave you as you are.
Come with your sins,
your weakness,
your brokenness,
your questionsโฆ
and you will go out with a new heart,
a new hope,
and a new life.
To Him be all the glory forever. Amen.
