This 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲, we recognise the wellbeing challenges faced by Australian men and boys - challenges that often go unspoken.
Men continue to experience higher rates of su***de, greater reluctance to seek medical or mental health support, and higher rates of lifestyle-related illnesses. Social expectations around “toughness” and “not showing weakness” can prevent men from reaching out when they need help most.
Australian men are also overrepresented in dangerous work, making up the majority of workplace injuries and 95 per cent of workplace fatalities. Many experience loneliness and social isolation, especially after major life changes like job loss, separation, or retirement - but stigma stops them speaking up.
Today is a reminder that everyone benefits when men are supported: at home, at work, and in the community.
This International Men’s Day, let’s:
✔ Encourage men and boys to talk openly about mental and physical health
✔ Promote safer workplaces
✔ Challenge unhealthy gender expectations
✔ Support services that help fathers, sons, partners, brothers, and mates stay connected.
Healthy men and boys mean healthier families, stronger communities, and a better Australia for everyone.
