DATING DONE RIGHT: How Far Can We Go?

Okay, let’s talk about a sensitive issue. We are past thirteen, single, and have a body that is ready for s*x. But you are not married 👩‍🦰👦

When dating, we can find ourselves in situations where either your partner, yourself, both of you, or just your body is saying, “Go for it.” What do you do? How far is too far? Why should you wait? Are you missing out on something good and depriving yourself for no reason? Or is there a good reason to have limits on s*xual expression? What will it hurt, you ask yourself, at the same time knowing that something is wrong 😳

DATING DONE RIGHT: Say No to Disrespect 🫷

Respect is a necessary element for any couple to grow in love. Each person needs to feel that they are respected by the person they are getting to know. This involves having esteem or regard for all aspects of the other 🤝

However, as good Christians though, we are reminded of verses such as Proverbs 19:11 which says "the discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression." This might make us feel as though we are called to overlook any disrespect our date shows us in order to be a good Christian 🤔

So how then can we balance being patient and forgiving Christians while saying no to disrespect?

KEEPING THINGS IN MY HEART

On the eve of the Feast of the Assumption of St Mary, let us gather together to reflect on a lesson from our Holy Mother.

Twice in his gospel, St Luke shares a detail about St Mary. He recorded for us that she "kept all these things and pondered them in her heart." (Luke 2:19) ❤️

What does it mean to keep something in my heart? As we have been reflecting on the topic of dating, could this be an important lesson to learn from St Mary to help us in all our relationships especially our relationship with her Son ✝️

DATING DONE RIGHT: The Blame Game

Why do you always . . .”
“Why don’t you ever . . .”
“I can’t believe you’ve done it again.”
“I don’t deserve this kind of treatment.”
“This is your fault.”
“Who do you think you are?”
“You’re so . . .”
“After all I’ve done for you . . .” 😠

If you have a habit of saying these or similar statements to your date, two things are true: first, they may be true; and second, you are making things worse. These are the results that blaming provides in dating. It has a place, as we will see. But it is less valuable, and more dangerous, than you might think 💔

Let’s take a look at setting boundaries on our tendency to blame
in dating.

Come and join us on Fri 14th August @ 8:00pm
St Paul's Church on level 3 (49 Fourth Ave BLACKTOWN) the meeting will be followed by food, games and fellowship 🙏

DATING DONE RIGHT: Good Hope vs Bad Hope

Hope is one of the greatest of virtues. As Paul says, “Faith, hope and love remain” (1 Corinthians 13:13). Hope drives great things to happen when all seems lost. If someone can keep hope going, then through faith and love, great things can be accom-
plished 🥳
But the Bible speaks of another kind of hope as well. It is the hope that “makes the heart sick” (Proverbs 13:12). It is “hope deferred.” In other words, hope that never is realized does not give life. It makes us sick and hopeless. It is a very good description of depression and giving up. When we hope and hope, and yet nothing happens and there is no reason to keep hoping other than hope itself, then despair settles in 😔
So what role does hope play in our dating life? And how do we distinguish between good hope and bad hope? 🤔

🌍 WHERE DO THE BIRTHING KITS GO? 🍼🤍

This Friday, we have a special Working Youth program as we celebrate the Feast of St Abanoub! 🎉🎉

A blessed Feast of St Abanoub to everyone! 🤗

⛪ 7:00pm — Vespers at St Abanoub Church
We’ll begin the evening by praying Vespers and singing a beautiful Doxology for St Abanoub at the Arabic Church:
📍 29 Chicago Avenue, Blacktown

🇰🇪 8:30pm — Kenya Presentation at St Paul’s Church
After packing our birthing kits last week, have you ever wondered where they go and how they make a difference?

Join us for a special presentation from someone who has travelled to Kenya twice and witnessed firsthand what life is like for many families living in poverty. They will share stories and insights into the challenges faced by men, women and children, and how acts of service like preparing birthing kits can bring practical support, dignity and hope to those in need.

This will be an eye-opening and meaningful opportunity to see the impact of the service we are part of and be encouraged to continue helping those we may never meet but can still serve with love. 🤍

🍕 We’ll finish the night with a celebration for Abouna, delicious food, fun and fellowship!

Come along for a beautiful evening of prayer, service, learning and community. We can’t wait to see you there! 🤗

DATING DONE RIGHT: Don't get Kidnapped

Ever had a friend who started dating someone then they disappeared off the face of the earth? One day they are there with you and the group and then they are gone. Missed calls, delayed responses to texts and constant excuses given for their absence 🤔
You might begin to feel like this has all got to do with their new date. But do you say anything? What do you say? What if you hurt their feelings? This is what happens when a person is kidnapped, and unfortunately, its perfectly legal 😲

A MODERN DAY SAINT: Hieromartyr Father Mina Aboud

Have you ever seen a dead man cry? This week's speaker has 😲
This week, e have a special event. Our beloved brother in Christ, Mina Aboud will be coming in to share with us the story of his brother and one of the most recent martyrs of our church, Fr. Mina Aboud.

On 6th July 2013, Father Mina Aboud, a priest of the Coptic Orthodox Church, in El-Areesh, North Sinai, was horrendously killed by extremists.

Father Mina was 39 years old, was a young father of a peaceful family, and a much loved leader to the congregation whom he served in all honesty and diligence.

This week we are blessed to have his brother Mina with us, sharing intimate details about his brothers life, death and the miracles that followed as we approach his great day next week 😇

Psalm 116:15 NKJV — Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His saints.
