PURSHOTTAM PARAM EKADASHi TODAY THURSDAY
11 June 2026
Om namo bhagwate vasudevaye
After 32 months, we’re graced with a fast which yields us so much opportunity to get rid of so many unpardonable sins.
It is such a blessed day to observe fast and worship of Sri Hari Vishnu or Salikram Dev.
After 32 months, 16 days we have an extra month when Chandra Dev’s cycle of 12 months catches up with that of Surya Dev and as such a new month is created.
It was appropriately called Adhik maas, at times referred malmaas.
Upon Sri Krishna adopting this month, the devta overseeing this month derived a new name – Purshottam maas.
The word Purshotam means Uttam Purush or the most revered God.
If we miss out observing today’s Ekadashi, we won’t get another chance to cash in on this tithi for another 32 months.
All other tithi repeat monthly or once a year but that of Ekadashi during purshottam month is only a once a 32-month event.
WHY IS EKADASHi SO IMPORTANT IN PURSHOTTAM?
While every day is divine in its own right during Purhsottam month, Ekadashi – which Sri Krishna says in bhagvat Gita – is the most important fast in any month for vaishno bhakti.
Consequently, Ekadashi is already a very auspicious day for Vaishno bhakti – Sri Krishna, Sri Hari Vishnu or Sri Ram.
And as this month is reserved for Sri Hari Vishnu’s bhakti – combine that with Ekadashi tithi – you get a super rich pooja day.
WHAT TO DO TODAY?
1) Observe a diet or fast with water only or if unable to then just on fruits or if unable to then root crops only
2) Bathe Sri Salikram, Sri Hari Vishnu or Sri Ram or Sri Krishna in holy watsr or panch minute.
3) Offer yellow flowers or clothes to Sri Hari Vishnu.
4) Offer tulsi leaves or manjiri
5) chant om namo bhagwate vasudevaye as many times as possible. Other easier mantras are Om Vishnuwe namah or Om Narayana namah or Om Sri Krishnaye namah or Sri Ram ramaye namah.
6) Listen to Sri hari katha or Gita parth. Other granths are equally rewarding – Sri Ramayan, Srimadh bhagwatam, Sri Vishnu Puran, Sri Naradh Puran or Sri Garur Puran.
ASHWINI NAV RATRI
This divine purshottam month ends on Monday, 15 June with Amavysa, with pitra dev rememberance day.
