THIS WEEKEND — LAST CHANCE TO JOIN US.
THE WORLD IS CHANGING. ARE WE READY TO NAVIGATE IT?

In just a few days, Sheikh Ahmed Saad Al-Azhari joins us in Auckland to explore one of the most pressing questions of our time:
How should we live in a rapidly changing world?

Through the legacy and scholarship of Habib Abu Bakr al-Mashhur, we’ll explore Fiqh al-Tahawwulāt — the Jurisprudence of Change and Transformation: understanding the realities of our time while remaining rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

This is more than a workshop about change. It’s an opportunity to step back from the noise, challenge our assumptions and reflect on the direction our lives are taking.
What are we becoming?
What must we hold onto?
And how do we live with meaning and purpose?

The Woman Behind His Lasting Impact

Behind every lasting legacy, there are often people whose contribution remains unseen.

In reflecting on the life of Habib Abu Bakr al-Mashhur, Sheikh Ahmed Saad Al-Azhari speaks about the woman behind his lasting impact — his wife.

A mother.
A teacher.
A planner.
A friend.
A serious voice.
Her role was not simply behind the scenes. She was part of the foundation that enabled a lasting legacy to be built.

It is a powerful reminder of the strength of women and the role strong women can play in shaping strong men, strong families, and lasting legacies.

What does it mean to build a legacy together?

The world is changing. But do we understand how to change with it?

Fiqh al-Tahawwulāt — the Jurisprudence of Change and Transformation — asks us to look beyond merely observing change and to understand how we respond to it in light of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

In a world of rapid transformation, how do we remain rooted without becoming disconnected from reality?
How do we navigate a changing world without losing our way?

Join Sheikh Ahmed Saad Al-Azhari as he explores the legacy of Habib Abu Bakr al-Mashhur, who dedicated his life to developing this jurisprudence of change, and the questions that matter for our times.

What is education really meant to do?

“Education transforms our minds.”
Reflecting on the educational vision of Habib Abu Bakr al-Mashhur, Sheikh Ahmed Saad Al-Azhari describes an education that liberates — giving a person the ability and qualification not simply to work, but to live a good life.

He contrasts this with what he describes as “servile education” — an education focused on utilitarian skills and preparing people to provide the services society requires.

But what happens when education teaches us what to do, without encouraging us to ask:
Why do we do the things that we do?
Perhaps education should do more than prepare us for employment.
Perhaps it should transform how we think, help us understand our purpose and give us the freedom to question, reflect and live well.

What do you think education should prepare us for?
Join us for a weekend of learning, reflection, and meaningful conversation.

Modernisation: more things, but less meaning.

In this reflection on the life and legacy of Habib Abu Bakr al-Mashhur, Sheikh Ahmed Saad Al-Azhari describes modernisation through the image of drums and shells — loud, but hollow.
He speaks of a reality where human beings can appear to have more than ever before, yet feel empty, fragile and fragmented.

We have more things.
More technology.
More access.
More convenience.

And yet, as Sheikh Ahmed asks:
Do we actually own anything?

What happens when we accumulate more externally, while becoming increasingly disconnected internally?
This is one of the deeper questions behind the Legacy Series Auckland Tour:
How do we navigate a changing world without losing what makes us human?

Who is Sheikh Dr Ahmed Saad Al-Azhari?

Born into a scholarly family in Egypt, Sheikh Ahmed Saad Al-Azhari began his traditional Islamic studies from a young age, memorising the Qur’an at just 10 years old under the guidance of his father.

He went on to study at Al-Azhar University, completing a BA in Islamic Studies in English, followed by postgraduate studies and a PhD in Philosophy, Theology and Religion from the University of Birmingham.

His academic research focuses on the relationship between traditional Muslim scholarship and modernity, with a particular focus on the work and project of Habib Abu Bakr al-Mashhur.

Alongside his academic work, Sheikh Ahmed has spent many years studying the traditional Islamic sciences with scholars from Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Mauritania, Madinah, Al-Ahsa and beyond. His studies include Qur’anic sciences, Hadith, Fiqh, Aqidah, Tafsir, Arabic language, Tasawwuf and other traditional disciplines.

He has taught and spoken across communities around the world, bringing together traditional knowledge with the questions and realities of contemporary life.

This intersection of tradition, scholarship, and modernity makes his upcoming Auckland visit particularly relevant to the questions we face today.
