St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney begins Training Choir for children in Years 1-3
As we continue the development of Sacred Music at St Mary’s Cathedral, we will be launching the Cathedral Training Choir from February 2024 for boys and girls in Years 1-3. This free-to-access ensemble will work to a specific curriculum tailored to manage and support their growth and understanding, allowing targets to be set for repertoire and other liturgical chants, as well as developing their knowledge of music theory. An important aspect of the Training Choir is the development of faith, and a catechetical approach will be drawn on through the preparation of Liturgical Music for the monthly Masses.
This ensemble will become a foundation choir for the main Cathedral Choir, and when children reach the end of Year 3, they will be given the opportunity to audition to become probationers in the Cathedral Choir. The Cathedral Training Choir will sing for the 6pm Saturday Vigil Mass once a month in the Cathedral during school term time. The Cathedral Training Choir will rehearse on Thursdays in the Cathedral Song School from 4:15pm to 5:30pm. The first rehearsal of the Cathedral Training Choir will be on Thursday 8th February 2024.
