Look closely at this painting of the Nativity of Mary.

Before our eyes are women serving, tending, carrying, comforting and sharing in the joy of new life. At first glance, it is an ordinary scene — a mother, a newborn child and a community of women gathered around them.

And yet, something extraordinary has happened.

The little girl in their midst is Mary — the woman who would one day give her fiat to God, carry the Saviour of the world, stand faithfully beneath the Cross and become Mother to us all.

Perhaps there is something beautiful in the fact that the beginning of Mary’s earthly life is traditionally imagined this way: surrounded by women and received with care.

On the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we give thanks to God for the gift of her life — and for the quiet ways He works through ordinary lives, ordinary homes and ordinary acts of love to unfold His plan of salvation.

Happy Birthday, Blessed Mother. 🤍

Constant rain didn’t dampen the spirits of 700 women who filled St Mary’s Cathedral College Hall for the annual Lenten retreat last Saturday. 29 March.

To love Christ is to recognise Him in the person before us.

Today we celebrate the Feast of St Teresa of Calcutta, whose life was a beautiful witness to a love that did not remain in words, but became service.

In the poor, the sick, the lonely and the forgotten, Mother Teresa sought the face of Jesus. She reminds us that holiness is often found in the small and hidden acts of love — in noticing another, giving our time, offering tenderness, and choosing to love when no one else sees.

May her example challenge us to look beyond ourselves and ask: Who is Christ inviting me to love today?

Our 2026 Emmaus participants have passed the halfway point of their journey, and they’ve shared heart-warming feedback about their experience so far.

Emmaus is a mentoring program for Catholic women in Sydney, built on the foundations of spiritual accompaniment. The program creates a space for women to walk alongside one another in faith, grow in their relationship with Christ, and encourage each other along the journey.

We’re so grateful to witness the beautiful connections being formed through this year’s program ❤️🔥

The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. 🕊️

In her Seven Sorrows, we contemplate a Mother who loved deeply, suffered faithfully, and remained close to Christ through every moment of His life — even to the foot of the Cross.

Mary shows us what it means to remain with Jesus in suffering: not without sorrow, but with faith, surrender and unwavering love.

As we enter this month, may we draw close to the Sorrowful Heart of Mary and allow her to lead us more deeply into the heart of her Son.

Today we celebrate the Feast of St Monica.

A mother who prayed with perseverance.
A woman who trusted God through years of waiting.
A saint whose tears became prayers.

St Monica reminds us that no prayer offered in love is ever wasted. Her faithful intercession for her son, St Augustine, is a beautiful witness to the power of a mother's prayer and the faithfulness of God.

St Monica, pray for us and for all mothers who entrust their children to the heart of Christ.

We’re delighted to share the new Walk with Christ companion for parishes, as part of our preparations for International Eucharistic Congress (Eucharist28) in 2028.

Developed through the Sydney Centre for Evangelisation, this practical resource has been created for parishes, chaplaincies and Catholic groups across Sydney. It offers a simple way to enter more deeply into Eucharistic renewal through Scripture, prayer, reflection and conversation. The International Eucharistic Congress will bear lasting fruit when Eucharistic formation takes root in the life of our parishes. This journey begins now.

Thousands of copies of the resource have now arrived in parishes across Sydney, with translations in Arabic, Chinese, Tagalog and other languages also on the way, helping make the resource accessible across the Church's many cultural and language communities.

As we look towards the Walk with Christ procession on Sunday, 22 November, this companion invites us to prepare not simply for an event, but for the personal and enduring renewal offered to us in the Eucharistic Lord.
