ADM For Jesus For Women

ADM For Jesus For Women Women for the Lord. Since 1891. We do so for the Church, and the common good.

We inspire and empower Christian women to bring the love of Jesus to a hurting world through theological education, compassionate ministries, community and public gospel witness. For 130 years, our work has responded to context and need, but we have had an enduring underlying mission: to raise up women with theological formation for practical and public engagement.

Our feelings are an important part of who we are as humans. But they donโ€™t define us and we donโ€™t have to let them control us. One of the most helpful things Iโ€™ve learnt is to recognise when Iโ€™m angry and how to manage this.

Sometimes, our emotions, particularly anger happen when we are tired and hungry. Recognising this connection can help significantly. Here are a few things that have helped me manage strong feelings particularly anger:

โ€ข Notice what Iโ€™m feeling

โ€ข Take some steps that can help you calm down. These might include breathing, taking a break by removing yourself from a situation, do some vigorous exercise, or listen to some calming music. A good place to start is to ask yourself, what have you done in the past thatโ€™s helped you calm down?

โ€ข Once you are calmer, some self-reflection can help โ€“ what triggered this? how could I respond differently, clearly and calmly? (this might be harder to do)

โ€ข Talking to someone outside the situation might help;

โ€ข If you have hurt someone by an outburst of strong emotion, such as anger, apologise and ask for forgiveness

Managing my emotions took me much time, but itโ€™s a skill worth working on โ€“ it helps everything!

People often ask whether journaling is worth the effort. It is! It not only helps clear a noisy mind from lots of thoughts and ruminating or recurring thoughts, but it also gives you a way of slowing your thoughts down.

Writing slows our thoughts down.

It helps us process emotions instead of carrying them around all day.

Your journal doesn't need beautiful handwriting or perfect grammar.

It just needs honesty. These questions might help you if you're not sure where to start

โœ What happened today?

โœ How am I feeling?

โœ What am I grateful for?

โœ What am I praying about?

โœ What do I need to let go of?

Sometimes clarity comes after we write, not before.

Today's challenge: Spend ten minutes writing whatever is going on in your mind.

What happens in the first 1,000 days of a childโ€™s life can shape their future for years to come. In this episode of ADM Conversations, Jeanie Schwarz speaks with Sarah Condie, former Co-Director of the Mental Health and Pastoral Care Institute, about why this critical period, from conception to a childโ€™s second birthday, deserves greater attention from parents, churches, and communities.

Drawing on her experience as a mother, pastor, and mental health advocate, Sarah shares practical insights into fostering healthy attachment, supporting new parents, building resilience, strengthening marriages, and recognising the signs of postnatal depression. She also explains how churches can play a vital role in helping families feel connected, supported, and equipped during one of life's most significant transitions.

Whether you're a parent, grandparent, church leader, or someone who cares about helping children flourish, this conversation offers encouragement, wisdom, and practical ideas for giving children the best possible start in life. Watch it here >>

Whose voice do you listen to? There are so many voices that speak into our self-identity: shame, your ugly, not good enough, not done enough...or can you hear the Lord's voice speak to you with such tenderness: Scripture says, we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:13-14), we are precious in God's sight (Is. 43:4), and we are his handiwork, created in Christ (Eph. 2:10). In other words, our achievements are not the source of our worth. Our identity is rooted in Christ. โ€œHe will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.โ€ Zephaniah 3:17. Why not spend a week on each verse, reading it, thinking about it and let this truth fill your mind. These truths are how the Lord sees you - He loves you.

How should Christians think about assisted dying?

In NSW, voluntary assisted dying is now part of our legal and medical landscape. For Christians, this raises complex questions about suffering, compassion, autonomy, public law, pastoral care and hope.

On Wednesday 21 October, Rev. Dr Andrew Errington will lead a three-hour Professional Development session on Christian Ethics and Assisted Dying.

The session will explore Christian thinking about euthanasia and assisted su***de, survey the current situation in NSW, and consider Christian responses โ€” including areas where Christians may disagree.

It will also help us think about the difference between what we hope for from public law and what we expect as individuals.

Come if you want to think carefully, biblically and pastorally about one of the most significant ethical issues facing Christians today.
