Residents for Waverley Cemetery We are a group of people who love Waverley Cemetery and are concerned about its future We encourage you to join and to contribute news, comments and photos

Residents for Waverley Cemetery is a group of Waverley and Randwick residents established to ensure that one of the top 10 Cemeteries in the world continues as an iconic Sydney site. RWC are committed to:

- Preserving the heritage and environment of Waverley Cemetery, for instance, the return of the original design of the boundary fence
- Promoting Waverley Cemetery as an historic and iconic site


- Ensuring the community and general public has easy access to the Cemetery as a place for contemplation, and the appreciation of local and national history
- Maintaining the valuable historic graves and monuments and the site in general
- Ensuring that any future work in the Cemetery is appropriate and in-line with community expectations
- Ensuring the families of the 80,000 people interred in the Cemetery, are confident that their loved ones continue to receive the respect they deserve.

We came across this excellent podcast today which outlines the history of Australian cemeteries. Around the 30 minute mark the issue of heritage listing is discussed. Of course we are all hoping that Waverley Cemetery will soon have a national heritage listing.
