Life, Marriage & Family

Life, Marriage & Family The Life Marriage and Family team operates under the auspices of the Archbishop of Sydney, Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP.

Life, Marriage and Family in the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney works to promote the Catholic Church's beautiful teachings on human life, marriage and family and does so through the facilitation of resources, presentations and evangelising opportunities. The Life Marriage and Family team is intent on building a culture of life and love in the Archdiocese of Sydney which affirms the foundational el

ements of marriage and family in the knowledge that these are critical in the establishment of a humane and flourishing society. Particular attention and resourcing is given to the promotion of a deeper understanding of the human person, the gift of human sexuality, fertility awareness methods, and the uniqueness and sacredness of Holy Matrimony compared to other forms of relationships. Marriage education and enrichment, parenting issues and men's ministry, the impact of divorce and marital separation, and the interests of children, are also areas of focus for the Life, Marriage and Family Team. The Life, Marriage and Family team encourages your engagement with our team members who are available to support parishes, schools, family and youth groups, and other agencies of the Archdiocese in any of the aforementioned areas by way of talks, presentations, focused resource development, or facilitated group information sessions.

WHAT IS LIFE MARRIAGE FAMILY SUNDAY?

LMF (Life, Marriage and Family) Sunday is celebrated near the Feast of St John Paul II to honour marriages and families, especially couples who are celebrating significant marriage milestones.

In previous years, an Archdiocesan Mass and celebration of significant anniversaries was held at St Mary’s Cathedral.

This year, all parishes are encouraged to celebrate within their local communities using the parish guide and resources, which is accessible to all.

A Transformative Week - Right Here in Sydney!

Immerse yourself in St John Paul II’s Theology of the Body through art and beauty, with Bill Donaghy from the Theology of the Body Institute.

Over five nights, explore St John Paul II’s Letter to Artists, reflective readings, prayer and a rich tapestry of art, music, poetry, and film. More than an appreciation of art, this is an invitation to see the world with sacramental eyes and discover how beauty can open the heart to truth and ultimately lead us to God.

Beyond the Wedding Threshold: A survey for Catholic couples in the first decade of marriage.

Our friends at the Parish and Marriage Resource Centre (PMRC) are conducting a global study into the experience of married Catholics.

If you married in the last 10 years and at least one spouse is Catholic, they'd love to hear from you.

Can you provide valuable insights to their work by completing this short survey about your marriage?

All your answers are anonymous and confidential, and you can contact the researchers directly if you have any questions.

DOES YOUR PARISH HAVE A FAMILY MINISTRY WHO ACCOMPANY MARRIED COUPLES AND FAMILIES?

The Parishes of St Josephs, Moorebank and St Christopher's, Holsworthy Somascan Movement Australia coordinate a monthly family night where families get together to listen to a testimony and to gather in prayer!

We would love to hear from you so we can provide awareness for the different types of family accompaniment that exist in various parishes across the Archdiocese.

Thank you to the volunteers, clergy, EPIC events and the parishes communities in the City Deanery for making the Camino a practical reality.

Walking with Christ: A new resource for parishes

We’re delighted to share the new Walk with Christ companion for parishes, as part of our preparations for International Eucharistic Congress (Eucharist28) in 2028.

Developed through the Sydney Centre for Evangelisation, this practical resource has been created for parishes, chaplaincies and Catholic groups across Sydney. It offers a simple way to enter more deeply into Eucharistic renewal through Scripture, prayer, reflection and conversation. The International Eucharistic Congress will bear lasting fruit when Eucharistic formation takes root in the life of our parishes. This journey begins now.

Thousands of copies of the resource have now arrived in parishes across Sydney, with translations in Arabic, Chinese, Tagalog and other languages also on the way, helping make the resource accessible across the Church's many cultural and language communities.

As we look towards the Walk with Christ procession on Sunday, 22 November, this companion invites us to prepare not simply for an event, but for the personal and enduring renewal offered to us in the Eucharistic Lord.
