CONTRAST OF GIVING & TAKING

COVETOUS SPIRIT OF A THIEF
“ Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, & said unto them, “What will you GIVE ME , & I will deliver him unto you? “

COVENANT OF BETRAYAL- AN EVIL PLOT
“ & they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. & from that time he SOUGHT OPPORTUNITY to betray him.”

GENEROUS SPIRIT OF A WORSHIPPER
“Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the l***r, there came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment” ,

PERFUME LINGERS IN THE HAIR
“ & poured it on his head, as he sat at meat”

POVERTY SPIRIT IS ALWAYS JUDGEMENTAL
“ But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, & given to the poor.”

JESUS ENDORSED HER WORSHIP
“When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble you the woman? for she has wrought a good work upon me.”

GENERATIONAL “ HAVES” & “ HAVE-NOTS”
“For you have the poor ALWAYS with you; but me you have not always.”

PROPHETICALLY LEAD
“ For in that she has poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.”

GOD HONOURS GENEROSITY PERPETUALLY
“ Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman has done, be told for a memorial of her.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26‬:‭6‬-‭16‬ ‭

CRITICAL OF GIVING TO THE LORD
As I read this scripture this morning in Matthew 26 I was arrested by Judas approach to the high priests “ What will you give ME?”. There is something about a covetous spirit that is never satisfied it always wants more. Judas objected when Mary anointed JESUS also. “This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, & had the bag, & bare what was put therein.” John‬ ‭12‬:‭6‬ ‭

EXTRAVAGANT WORSHIP
Mary was an extravagant worshipper . Solomon was an extravagant worshipper. King David was an extravagant worshipper. They gave the best they had for the Lord not because of compulsion but because of love & appreciation for his blessings & mercy of which they were aware every day.

BELIEVERS TAUGHT TO GIVE
This is why we teach about giving in the church. A generous spirit reflects the spirit of the Lord. I’m sure there are many theories about why Jesus chose a thief to be his treasurer. It certainly shows his attitude towards money. Jesus gave everything to die for us. You cannot give more than everything ie every second of every minute of every year he lived on the earth ie He gave of Himself 100%.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him need not perish but have everlasting life “ John 3:16

MATTHEW WRITES JUDAS MADE A COVENANT WITH THE PRIESTS
Unlike a legal contract, which focuses on conditions and penalties, a covenant is grounded in unconditional devotion, self-sacrifice, and a desire to build a shared life or shared goals together.

BE READY FOR JESUS IS COMING AGAIN

OUR FATHER IS OIC OF ALL CREATION
“But of that day & hour knows NO MAN , no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

GOD MOVES SUDDENLY IN HIS TIME
“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

LIFE WAS AS USUAL -THEN SUDDENLY !!!
“ For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating & drinking, marrying & giving in marriage, “

GOD SHUT THE DOOR OF THE ARK
“until the day that Noe entered into the ark”

NO LAST MINUTE WARNING
“knew not until the flood came, & took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. “

50% OF THE CHURCH SERVANTS NOT PREPARED
“Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, & the other left. “

HALF OF THE CHURCH NOT ON “ QUE VIVE”
“Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, & the other left.”

JESUS SAID KEEP AN UPWARD “Look”
“Watch therefore:”

“KNOW- ALLS “ DON’T KNOW
“ for you KNOW NOT what hour your Lord does come. “

KEEP SHORT ACCOUNTS WITH THE LORD
“ Therefore be you also ready: for in such an hour as you think not the Son of man comes ”. Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭36‬-‭42‬, ‭44‬ ‭

MANY SIGNS OF HIS COMING IN HISTORY
Having been in the church since I was a teenager, I have heard many predictions about the imminent coming of Jesus. As we examine history there have been many wars and rumours of wars & unusual happening such as earthquakes etc. Because of this many scoff & mock the fact that Jesus is coming again.

OUR HEAVENLY FATHER IS SUPREME
The truth of the matter is HE IS COMING AGAIN in HIS time. We must remember that “a day with the Lord is as 1000 years.” OUR heavenly father has his own agenda & has many times appeared suddenly.

OUR FATHER IS ALWAYS A STEP AHEAD
He “suddenly “ moved when he came the first time . . He came “suddenly “ to the Virgin Mary. He moved “suddenly “ the night Jesus was born with the heavenly choir singing & shepherds announcing his birth. He moved “suddenly” when he told Joseph to immediately leave and take Mary and baby Jesus to Egypt for safety when King Herod was on the war path.

LIVE IN HIS PRESENCE
He moved “suddenly “ on the day of Pentecost. To take people by surprise requires sudden , undisclosed movement as every soldier knows. During World War II there was a common saying “ LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS “.

ONLY FATHER GOD KNOWS HIS PLAN
That is why we need to stay awake & live in the presence of God ready for “takeoff. “ A sobering thought is of all the people on the earth during the time of Noah the only people IN the ark were those who helped build the ark..

LOOK UP FOR OUR REDEMPTION DRAWS NEARER THAN WHEN WE FIRST BELIEVED.

SUFFERING SERVANTHOOD

MOTHERS AMBITION FOR HER SONS
“Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on your right hand, & the other on the left, in your kingdom. “

JESUS ADDRESSED JAMES & JOHN
“& he said unto them, You shall drink indeed of my cup, & be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: “

ACKNOWLEDGING FATHERS AUTHORITY
“but to sit on my right hand, & on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.it shall be given to them”

RIVALS ?
“ & when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.”

POWER STRUCTURES IN THE WORLD
“But Jesus called them unto him, & said, You know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, “

POLITICAL DOMINANCE
“& they that are great exercise authority upon them.”

GREATNESS IN GODS EYES MEASURED BY SERVANTHOOD
“ But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister”

JESUS OUR EXAMPLE
“even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, & to give his life a ransom for many.” Matthew‬ ‭20‬:‭21‬, ‭23‬-‭26‬, ‭28‬ ‭

ALL AMBITION LEADS TO SUFFERING
Most people do not realise that great ambition to rise to the top necessitates suffering in that it costs in self interest , time , money , relationships, jealous retaliation , etc.

JESUS SUFFERED MORE THAN ANYONE
For us to be brought into the kingdom of God cost Jesus everything ie every second of every minute of every hour of every year that he walked the earth he lived to fulfil his father‘s will for him . The preparation for that suffering took 30 years.

BAPTISM OF MATURITY
In the case of James and John they did suffer as disciples of Jesus. When James was beheaded by Herod I’m sure the mother who made the request suffered also. Jesus went on to teach (in my reading today ) re ambition in the kingdom of God and cautioned the disciples about the desire for personal power . Our placement in the kingdom of God must be by the King himself . We must realise it’s not our power but his power that builds his kingdom.

ACADEMIA EXALTS YOU BUT ONLY CHARACTER KEEPS YOU THERE
In my experience in the church, I have seen many ambitious people with great academic achievement fall by the wayside because of a desire to rise to the top before they matured in character. Many lessons need to be learned on the way especially in God‘s kingdom. It is the king who is building his church not man.

JOSEPH A TYPE OF JESUS
Joseph in the old OT was the seemingly indulged son of Jacob and chosen by God to lead Israel into Egypt to become a nation. He was sold by his brothers as a slave. He was falsely accused of attempted r**e and spent years in prison. God was with him in every test and made a way for him to be promoted from prison to OIC next to pharaoh. He matured to a place where he recognised everything that had happened in his life was to mature him for leadership

TONGUE REVEALS HEART CONDITION

NEGATIVE WORDS OF DOOM & GLOOM
“not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

GODS DESIRE is INNER TRANSFORMATION
“Then came his disciples, & said unto him, Know you not that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?”

EVERY PLANT
“ But he answered & said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father has not planted, shall be rooted up.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15‬:‭11‬-‭13‬ ‭

(RHEMA WORD
I remember in Indonesia years ago meeting a man there , who was facing his doctors diagnosis that he had a cancer growing in his body. He told me that God shared Matthew 15:13 as a “rhema “ word TO Him to proclaim over his body for healing. )

HEART CONDITION
The Lord is far more interested in our inner transformation than our outer performance & presentation. Religious people want to look good & cover many things up but God doesn’t work in that way . HE uncovers issues that we might deal with them this side of eternity before we face the final judgement of God.

DAILY EXAMINATION
Some issues affect our spiritual progress especially the issue of unforgiveness. Isn’t it interesting that part of the prayer Jesus taught us to say DAYLY is “ forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us” . We are clearly told in scripture if we don’t forgive everyone for everything we will not be forgiven by the Lord.

SATAN LOOKS FOR SOMEONE TO DEVOUR
When David broke the 6th & 7th commandments he tried to hide it because it was so very wicked & very unlike David. The enemy “set him up “ by tempting him to lie in his bed with an idle mind while his army was on manoeuvres . The enemy then used his “eye gate “ & heart of lust to carry out breaking the 7th commandment which led to breaking the 6th.

HIGH PRIORITY ON GODS EXPECTATION
When Peter the apostle asked Jesus how often he should forgive daily he was “blown away “when Jesus said 70×7‎ = 490. This is how important God feels about holding a grudge , speaking critical judgement of others and in general taking what I call the “high ground” in looking down upon people for whom we should feel compassion.

LET A MAN EXAMINE HIMSELF
No wonder the preparation for revival in 11 Chronicles 7:14 begins with a condition “if” & then the first requirement is to humble ourselves.

LORD LET OUR HEARTS BE CHANNELS OF YOUR GRACE AS WE EXERCISE YOUR JUSTICE IN MERCY

FRIVOLOUS IDLE TALK

SERIOUS BUSINESS-CONDEMN OURSELVES
“ For by your words you shall be justified, & by your words you shall be condemned.” Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭36‬-‭37‬

THE FATHER TOLD JESUS WHAT TO SPEAK
“For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, & what I should speak”

HE OBEYED THE FATHER
“ I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭49‬-‭50‬ ‭

SATAN IS THE ACCUSER AND DECEIVER
I was very arrested yesterday in our Back to Basis Bible Study as we looked at Spiritual Warfare & were reminded that the enemy is the deceiver & accuser of the brethren
& his main weapon is the tongue- his tongue , our tongue & the tongues of others.

THE WORD OF GOD MUST BE “ RIGHTLY DIVIDED “. 2TIM 2:15
When Jesus was taken by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil after Jesus had fasted 40 days the devil quoted the the word of God endeavouring to deceive JESUS into coming under his authority in the personal area of physical hunger to take a “short- cut “to power by avoiding the prophesied suffering Jesus was to endure.

THE TONGUE SMALL & POWERUL
Satan by using his tongue to cunningly quote scripture endeavoured to get the son of God to worship him by using the weapon of his tongue. Praise the Lord , that Jesus passed the test and answered using his tongue quoting the word in context. The conflict was so intense that angels came to minister to Jesus at the conclusion of this dialogue.

LOOK ALIKE BUT REFUSE TO BEND
In my reading this morning I read the parable of the wheat and the tares that grow together .
“ Jesus said unto them, An enemy( Satan) has done this . The servants said unto him, do you want then that we go & gather them up? But he said, No ; lest while you gather up the tares, you root up also the wheat with them” I was reminded that not everyone talking about heaven is going there, only those in the church Jesus is building.

THE ANGELS GIVEN THAT ASSIGNMENT
‘Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather together first the tares, & bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭

LAW OF SOWING & REAPING

JUDGE RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT
“Judge not, that you be not judged. “

YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW
“For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: “

REPEATED LAW
“& with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again. “

FALSE JUDGEMENT
“& why behold the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but consider not the beam that is in your own eye?”

FIX YOURSELF FIRST
“Or how will you say to your brother, Let me pull out the mote out of your eye; & behold, a beam is in your own eye?”

CANT SEE PROPERLY
“ You hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of your own eye; & then shall you see clearly to cast out the mote out of your brother's eye“

GODS LAW IS INEXORABLE
“Therefore all things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do even so to them: for this is the law & the prophets.” Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭1‬-‭5‬, ‭12‬ ‭

UNJUST JUDGEMENT
Have you ever noticed how we expect God to deal with us and the people we love & appreciate with “abundant mercy “ but we’re very “short on mercy “ with people with whom we struggle to show love who in some area of Christian behaviour irritate us with their personal disapproval of us.

WE MUST FORGIVE EVERYONE for EVERYTHING
This injustice on our part in judging others unrighteously can affect our health, answers to prayer & all areas of progress in our Christian life. We saw that in the life of Jonah who judged the Gentile nation of Nivevah unworthy of the mercy of God whereas he cried for mercy knowing full well he would receive it in the “belly of hell”. ( the whales belly) .

GOD HANDLES PRAYER RESULTS
When we pray about situations that others are experiencing, we often don’t know the state of their soul in the area of forgiveness & showing mercy to others. That is why we have to leave the results in God‘s hands because He knows their hearts even to the point of knowing whether they want the answer for which that we are praying .

GOD RESPECTS THE WILL HE GAVE
On one occasion, Jesus asked a blind man “ what do you want me to do for you ?” because the will of the person for whom we are praying is involved as well as their spiritual condition.

WE ALL NEED GODS MERCY
The Bible clearly declares “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” Rom 3:23

TO THE MERCIFUL GOD SHOWS MERCY
