AL MADINA GROUP// Media Statement / 7 Detained
In the name of Allah, the most Gracious the most Merciful.
We are already witnessing the first signs of fracture within our society. In the aftermath of recent events in Bondi, tensions and heightened rhetoric are clearly on the rise.
Recent police raids have further intensified these concerns. It has been alleged that during these operations, in Victoria during raids, police threatened serious harm against an individual. In addition in NSW, unmarked police vehicles were used to ram into two separate cars containing Muslim men. Such actions are wholly unacceptable.
These same individuals were detained for approximately 25 hours and subsequently released without charge bartered and bruised. This outcome raises serious and legitimate questions about proportionality, conduct, and accountability.
Such events must not be used as a licence for law enforcement to disproportionately target the Muslim community. Australia is not the United States, and our policing must not adopt a “shoot first, ask questions later” mentality. This approach is not acceptable and has no place in our society.
All community members must feel equally safe and protected in our society. No community should be privileged over another, nor should any be treated as inherently suspect. If fear-driven responses are allowed to shape law enforcement practices, we risk eroding public trust and further fracturing an already fragile social fabric.
We call for calm, transparency, and adherence to the principles of justice, fairness, and equal treatment for all.
