I’ve always believed that being a rabbi is about more than what happens inside a synagogue. It’s about showing up for people, wherever life finds them.
For those who are new here, I’m Rabbi Yossi Friedman, a husband, father of five, former Synagogue rabbi and founder of Rabbi On Demand.
Years ago, I found myself riding a moped around Bali, inviting Jewish travellers to a last-minute Pesach Seder. Over 100 people showed up. That night reminded me of something powerful: sometimes all someone needs is an invitation to feel they belong.
After 15 years serving Jewish communities as rabbi across Sydney, I realised there were still so many people we weren’t reaching. People without a shule, without a rabbi, or simply looking for a more personal connection to their Judaism.
That’s why I created Rabbi On Demand.
Whether I’m standing under a chuppah, supporting a family through grief, bringing Shabbat to the beach, or having a conversation with a stranger, my purpose remains the same: to connect, listen, and make Judaism feel accessible to everyone.
I believe you don’t need to know every prayer, have all the answers, or practise Judaism a certain way to belong. Our traditions are for all of us.
My mission is simple: to make Jewish life more meaningful, personal, and welcoming. To build a community where every Jew feels connected, supported, and proud of who they are.
Because Judaism isn’t just about what we practise. It’s about the people we connect with, the way we show up for one another, and what we pass on to the next generation.
