Rulings Regarding the Uḍḥiyah 🐑 🐄 🐪

1. What is Uḍḥiyah?
It is the sacrifice performed on the day of Eid al-Aḍḥā by slaughtering a camel, cow, or sheep.

2. What is its ruling?
It is a highly recommended Sunnah. If one is capable of performing it but chooses not to, then this is disliked.

3. Can something other than a camel, cow, or sheep be sacrificed?
No.

4. Is slaughtering the Uḍḥiyah better than giving its equivalent value in money?
Yes. Slaughtering the Uḍḥiyah is preferred.

5. Can someone perform the Uḍḥiyah if they are in debt?
It is allowed, as long as the lender is not asking for the money at that same time. If the lender is asking for repayment, then paying the debt is preferred.

6. When does the sacrifice begin?
It begins after the Eid prayer and continues until the third day of Eid, which is the 13th day of Dhul-Ḥijjah.

7. Is the person who wishes to sacrifice required to do anything beforehand?
If a person wishes to sacrifice, or have a sacrifice done on their behalf, then it is forbidden for them to remove any hair or clip any nails from the beginning of Dhul-Ḥijjah — meaning from Maghrib on the last day of Dhul-Qaʿdah — until the Uḍḥiyah has been sacrificed on Eid.

8. If someone intended to perform the Uḍḥiyah and then removed some hair or nails, does this affect their Uḍḥiyah?
If it was done out of ignorance or forgetfulness, then there is no problem.

Also, if it was done out of necessity, there is no problem.

If someone does it while knowing that it is forbidden during the first ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah, then they should repent to Allah, and there is no problem with the validity of the Uḍḥiyah.

9. Can the animal be purchased by more than one person, or does each person have to purchase their own sacrifice?
If people wish to put their money together to purchase a sacrifice, it is allowed with conditions:

1. This can only be done with a cow or camel.
2. The maximum number of people who may share in purchasing one of these animals for Uḍḥiyah is seven people.

As for a sheep, it can only be purchased by one person.

10. Is the reward only for the purchaser of the Uḍḥiyah, or can it be intended for others?
A person can intend the reward for themselves and their family, as the Prophet ﷺ used to say before slaughtering:

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا عَنِّي وَعَنْ أُمَّتِي

Bismillāh, Allāhumma hādhā ʿannī wa ʿan ummatī.

“In the name of Allah. O Allah, this is on behalf of me and my nation.”

11. Can the Uḍḥiyah be done on behalf of the deceased?
It is better for it to be done on behalf of the living.

12. What should be done with the sacrifice?
The Sunnah is to consume one third of it, gift one third of it, and give the remaining third as charity.

Or, one may give all of it in charity

Allah knows best.

Within the last 50 years, a feminist Islamic group by the name of the Qubaisiyaat had appeared in Syria, founded by a woman called Munira al-Qubaisi. This group of women positioned themselves as the front runners in teaching other women, while at the same time excluding and cutting off female Muslims from scholars and mashāyikh who have dedicated their lives to the path of knowledge.

Now, we are witnessing a newer version of this approach however, this time disguised under the banner of Salafi belief. A group of sisters, who are not known to have studied or to possess any established background in knowledge, have emerged within the da‘wah. They present themselves as Salafis, yet attempt to restrict and isolate sisters from accessing scholars, keeping them under their own supervision. They say: “Men do not understand your needs; men do not understand women come back to us and we will teach you.”

These sisters operate based on what they perceive to be better for women from a worldly (dunyā) perspective, rather than from an Islamic one. As a result, their approach becomes rooted in bias. They actively search for opinions that appear more favorable to women, even if those opinions lack a valid basis in the Sharī‘ah.

Among the latest claims being circulated are: that a woman is permitted to travel on her own without a maḥram, or that if a woman’s dowry was not something physical, then the marriage is invalid ، and that a Wife is not obliged to cater for her husband at home claims that no recognized scholar would say.

My brothers, be wary of such individuals. And if your wives or sisters have begun to take them as Islamic authorities, then know that these circles often cultivate an attitude that leads women away from obedience to their husbands.

And Allah knows best.

Question:
What are the means to remain consistent upon righteous deeds after Ramadan?

Answer: 🍃
1. First and foremost, seek help from Allah for guidance and steadfastness. Allah has praised the supplication of those firmly grounded in knowledge:

“Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.” (Āl ‘Imrān 3:8)

2. Increase in the company of the righteous and be keen to attend gatherings of remembrance (dhikr).
3. Learn about the lives of the righteous by reading books or listening to beneficial reminders, as this strengthens motivation and determination.
4. Be diligent with the obligatory acts, such as the five daily prayers and making up missed fasts from Ramadan, for there is immense خير (good) in fulfilling obligations.
5. Maintain voluntary acts (nawāfil), even if small but consistent, for the most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are continuous, even if قليل (small).
6. Begin memorising the Qur’an and consistently recite it, and use what you memorise in your prayers and voluntary acts.
7. Increase in the remembrance of Allah and seeking forgiveness, for it is easy to perform yet عظیم (great) in benefit—it increases faith and strengthens the heart.
8. Stay far away from things that corrupt the heart, such as bad company, listening to music and idle entertainment, and looking at indecent things.
9. Finally, sincere repentance (tawbah naṣūḥ)—a repentance without returning to sin, by Allah’s permission. Indeed, Allah rejoices over His servant’s repentance with immense joy.
