On the 14th of June, the Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP installed Fr Christopher Sharah FSF as Parish Priest of St John the Baptist, Bonnyrigg Heights. The solemn installation was an event of profound grace for Fr Christopher and the friars.

The Friars of St Francis have come to St John the Baptist Parish! They recently moved from St Bernadette's, Dundas Valley, in the Parramatta Diocese, and began the pastoral care of St John the Baptist in Bonnyrigg Heights in the Archdiocese of Sydney. The Friars of St Francis are a reform community of Franciscans that began in 1993 with Fr Christopher FSF, and has since grown into a community of six friars. Fr Christopher FSF is the new Parish Priest, alongside Fr Ruben FSF and Fr Benedict FSF, who are assistant priests. The friars are happy at their new appointment, which is one of the largest Catholic parishes in NSW.

On Friday the 1st of May, the JB Social Group travelled to the Southern Highlands to Joadja, which is a historical shale mining town. It is heritage listed. 47 parishioners enjoyed the trip and were treated to a very informative 90 minute tour as they traversed some of the thousands of hectares in people movers. They heard about the establishment and then demise of the mining town, its discoveries of shale and coal and saw some of what’s left of the buildings and infrastructure. After a ploughmans lunch they had a tour of the Distillery they operate on site. A bottle of their award winning gin was presented to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The weather was sunny and it was a great and fun filled day.

At Children’s Liturgy yesterday, the children made small artworks to symbolise how much Jesus loves them and what they can do in their lives to be more like Jesus. 🙏🏼🥰
