📝📖 PEOPLE OF HISTORY 📖📝

Today we remember Norman McKenzie, recognised as the first glider pilot to lose his life in Australia through the early development of gliding aviation. ✈️

Norman McKenzie died on 4 October 1936 and is laid to rest at Swan Hill Memorial Park in Presbyterian No. 1, Row 29.

His story forms part of both local and Australian aviation history, reflecting the courage and determination of those involved in the early years of flight.

We are privileged to help preserve and care for the resting places of those whose lives helped shape our shared history. 🌿

During National Reconciliation Week, we acknowledge the importance of reflection, respect and shared history within our communities 🤍🖤💛❤️

Cemeteries are places that hold generations of stories, connections and memories. They remind us of the people who came before us and the importance of preserving history, culture and community for future generations 🌿

National Reconciliation Week provides an opportunity for all Australians to reflect, learn and continue walking forward together with understanding and respect.

We also acknowledge Queen Aggie, an important Aboriginal woman connected to the Swan Hill region whose story forms part of our community’s cultural and historical heritage. Her legacy remains an important reminder of the deep and continuing connection Aboriginal people have to Country and community.
