This beautiful prayer by Janine Johnston was part of our service yesterday.

God of boundless grace –
we come together in this place, in your presence, just as we are;
we bring our sadness and our joy;
we bring our hope and our restlessness,
we bring ourselves, just as we are –
for we can come no other way.

God of our shadows –
we come with our struggles,
contradictions, frailty and mistakes.
may we be hopeful and patient
with ourselves and others,
knowing that in You we are seen completely, known fully and loved unconditionally;
knowing that this ‘doing of life’ is a time of transformation and becoming.

God of lightness –
We bring to mind those around us for whom the days and the moments of days are heavy – those close to us and those we do not know…
We name them now
(either aloud or in our thoughts) …
We ask for comfort, healing, reconciliation, courage, strength, hope and for gentle companionship and experiences of kindnesses on the way

God of beginnings –
Thank you for this community full of energy, curiosity and possibility.
may we be wise and courageous, may we make choices with creativity, integrity and insight, as we seek to be a community that lives fully in the love of God and with love for others, to create a better world.

Our Easter prayer

Let us pray.

Christ of restarts, resurrections, and triumphs.

On this day you rise above the turmoil of your earthly existence.

On this day you rise to become a beacon to the people, spreading the good news of how love conquers death.

We pray that our community can become a beacon of love. Unconditional love that flows like rivers in the desert, bringing life and joy to all we encounter.

On this day you spread the good news of how compassion overcomes evil.

We pray that our community can become a beacon of compassion. Ceaseless compassion that restores and heals, guiding those who are lost in darkness into new life.

On this day you spread the good news of how companionship defeats despair.

We pray that our community can become a beacon of companionship. Steadfast companionship that upholds but doesn’t judge, everyday counsel for hurt souls and broken lives.

Jesus of this third day, instil in us an everyday resurrection.

Help us embody the good news of your victory over death.

Shape us into the beacon of love, compassion, and companionship that you were during your earthly existence.

In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
