LAP FUNDRAISING APPEAL

In preparation for our fundraising collection at all Masses on the 6th/7th July, the parish LAP fundraising team recently had a zoom call with Nita Anggriawan, the Jakarta-based Director at LAP. In the call Nita walked us through a report summarising the status of activities at LAP.

Parish Lent Reconciliation Liturgy and Confession
Wednesday 13 March 7.00pm

Lent as we know, is the season of Repentance and Renewal.
A keyway in which we experience that is in the sacrament of con fession.
I warmly invite all to our Parish Lent Reconciliation Liturgy and indi vidual confession that follows.

OUR PARISH NATIVITY LIGHTS
Sure enough hot cross buns were in the shops the day after Christmas! So, although Epiphany concludes the Christmas season according to the rules of the Liturgy, I have asked that the Nativity lights on the front windows of the church be kept up for an extra week to let passers by not treat Christmas as a one day wonder.
This can be our response to hot cross buns in the shops already and the mad rush from one thing to another.
Thanks to Michael McConville for the Nativity lights that brightly and publicly witness to the wider community that birth of the Lord who is Lord of everyday not simply the 25th December. In the next few Sundays, we calmly return to Sundays in Ordinary Time until Ash Wednesday on the 14th February and our journey through Lent to Easter.
The Liturgical year gently guides us, not the supermarkets.

FAREWELL TO THE NATIVITY
Epiphany marks the conclusion of the Christmas Season so it will be time to farewell the Nativity scene in our Parish Church. Many thanks to Jo Wiegerink for caring for the Nativity scene which is an important and beloved focus of our Advent and Christmas liturgies.
Our Nativity scene is part of a long and widespread tradition. As Pope Francis reminded us 2023 was the 800th anniversary of the first Nativity scene set up by Francis of Assisi at the Italian village of Greccio on Christmas Eve 1223.
Whether the Nativity scene is in St. Peter's Square, in a church or in one's home, Pope Francis said, people passing one should remem ber Jesus' birth 2,000 years ago and be moved to "silence and prayer in our often so hectic daily lives”.
“Silence to be able to listen to what Jesus tells us from the unique 'cathedra' of the manger," he said. "Prayer to express grateful won der, tenderness and perhaps the tears that the Nativity scene stirs in us."

Christmas Greetings
On behalf of our Parish Staff may I extend to you all every blessing for the Christmas festival. May it be a time of faith and family, friendship and rest. We keep in our thankful prayer all those who will be working over this time to sustain the fabric of our wider community for us. We also hope that this might be a time of safe ty for those travelling for holidays.
Thanks to those who have mailed or dropped in Christmas cards and for your kind words. We also look forward to a new year that lays before us, it’s joys and sorrows as yet unknown. May the Lord hold us in his eternal and steadfast care through the changes and chances of life’s journey.

As it's Christmas and as a lot of parishioners have asked if there was an easier way to donate more than $5 using the Tap and Go machine in St Anne's Church we are pleased to say we now have a machine where you can select $2, $5, $10, or $20 to donate.
Help spread Jesus's word, especially as we celebrate his birth.

FUNDRAISING APPEAL FOR LAP AT ALL MASSES ON 7TH/8TH OCTOBER
Over the past 10 years generous contributions from our parishioners have financially supported the LAP Team caring for approximately 130 children stricken with HIV-AIDS in the poorest slums of Jakarta.
Unfortunately, Nita Anggriawan, the program Director at LAP was not able to travel to Melbourne as planned this weekend but has prepared the short video below to thank everyone in the parish for their generosity over the years.
You will have heard in Nita’s voice the absolute gratitude that the LAP team has for your generosity over the years – your contributions make a real difference to the HIV children.
This weekend we are again appealing to your generosity.
If you are attending Mass, you can make a cash donation when the collection is taken up.
Alternatively, if you would like to assist LAP with their work you can donate directly to the following parish account established specifically for contributions to LAP
BSB 083347, ACCOUNT NO. 546358602, ACCOUNT NAME: OLMC CHURCH ACCOUNT – LAP DONATION.
Thank you for your generosity.
