The Sunbury Cemetery Trust respectfully acknowledges that the Sunbury Cemetery is situated on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, who have cared for this land for countless generations. We extend our deepest respect to their enduring connection to country and recognize the profound significance of this landscape in Australian first nations peoples’ experiences surrounding a

spiritual connection with life and the afterlife. In honouring the rich cultural traditions of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, we pay our sincere respects to their Elders—those who have guided us in the past, those who walk with us in the present, and those who will lead the way into the future. May our endeavours within this sacred space be conducted with mindfulness and appreciation for the interconnectedness between the living, the departed, and the land on which we gather.

🕊 Update: Sunbury Cemetery – Pre-Need Plots Now Available

You may have noticed some new signage at the Cemetery. We want to share some more information.

For many years, the cemetery has had enough space to meet at-need requirements — that is, for immediate burial needs — in both monumental and lawn areas.

However, meeting what’s known as pre-need demand (where people wish to purchase a plot in advance) hasn’t previously been possible in recent years due to limited capacity. This has been a particular challenge for many communities, including our local Orthodox community, where there has been increasing demand.

The Sunbury Cemetery Trust has been working hard through its capital works program to construct new plots and expand capacity. Thanks to this work, the cemetery is now able to offer pre-need monumental grave sites — a much-requested option that many in our community have been asking for.

At present, monumental grave sites are available for purchase, and lawn areas are expected to become available soon.

If you’re interested in finding out more, please contact the RPCV Sales Team at [email protected].

📢 Damage at Sunbury Cemetery 🌳☀️

It is with great disappointment that we share news of damage at the Sunbury Cemetery, specifically to the fence and gate located between the car park and the lawn memorial area. This incident occurred over the weekend of 5-7 January.

We want to reassure everyone that no damage to memorials or graves has been observed as a result of this incident. The safety of our community is our top priority, and we have already taken measures to address the situation.

The damaged fence has been removed, and we are actively exploring replacement options to restore the site to its former state. Whether accidental or intentional, this act poses a safety risk to our community, and it saddens us to witness damage to such a sacred space.

We kindly urge all community members to report any damage or incidents to our service provider, Remembrance Parks - Central Victoria, at 1300 266 561. Your vigilance ensures the preservation of the Sunbury Cemetery for everyone.

🙏 A quote from Trust Chair, Mr Richard Vandeloo JP: "The Sunbury Cemetery Trust is deeply disheartened by this act of vandalism. We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all. Let us come together to protect and preserve this sacred space."
