This Sunday
In this service, we hear Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount — the Beatitudes — often translated as “Blessed are…”

10am - 20 Williamson Ave Strathmore
staidans.org.au/live

But what if blessed doesn’t mean happy, successful, or approved?

In this sermon, we explore the deeper meaning of Jesus’ words as a declaration of belonging.
Not a reward for the worthy, but a naming of those who already belong.

Jesus speaks to the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, the overlooked, the exhausted — and says, you are not outside.

This service is for anyone who has ever felt excluded, not enough, or too much.
For those who carry doubt, grief, difference, or weariness into faith.

You are not asked to qualify.
You are not required to perform.
You are included.

New on the blog: “When the Scroll Is Rolled Up: How Jesus Reads Scripture with Discernment.” Reflect with us on Luke 4—how Jesus selects words that bring life and refuses vengeance. A short, thoughtful read for anyone seeking a careful, compassionate approach to Scripture. Read more: https://wix.to/ek2cPDe

In Luke 4, Jesus reads from Isaiah — then stops mid-sentence. He chooses words that bring life and refuses to speak words of vengeance. From the very beginning of his ministry, Jesus models reading Scripture with discernment, care, and responsibility.

Jesus does not begin with power or performance.
He begins by stepping into the same water as everyone else.

This Sunday’s reflection explores the baptism of Jesus as a moment of revelation, not reward — where belovedness is named before achievement, and holiness is found in solidarity rather than separation.

Jesus does not begin on a throne, in the Temple, or with a display of power. He begins by stepping into the same water as everyone else. In Matthew’s account of Jesus’ baptism, belonging comes before achievement and identity before action. This reflection explores baptism not as a gateway to gra...

Prayer and and PSA

We hold in prayer the families and communities affected by yesterday’s bushfires — those who have lost loved ones, homes, and a sense of safety.

God of mercy, be close to those who grieve, strengthen those who are exhausted, and sustain all who face the long work of recovery. May care, solidarity, and hope surround every affected community.

A note to our community

Strathmore is a generous community. If you are donating to bushfire relief, please give only through known and reputable charities. Sadly, scams often appear during disasters. Taking care with our giving helps ensure support reaches those who truly need it.

What is your response when the light of revelation appears? Fear, hesitation, or dare to change direction? Dive into our latest reflection on Epiphany and the call to action in a fractured world: https://wix.to/9qEeL80

Epiphany is not only about seeing the light — it is about what we do when it appears. In Matthew’s Gospel, the same revelation produces radically different responses: fear that clings to power, hesitation that preserves the status quo, and worship that dares to change direction. This reflection ...

A quiet place to light a candle and sit together tonight.
St Aidan’s Anglican Church, Strathmore, will be open from 4.00–7.00 pm.

In the wake of yesterday’s mass shooting in Sydney, our church will be open for anyone in the local community who would like to come in, light a candle, and spend a moment in silence or reflection.

You do not need to be religious.
There will be no service, no speeches, and no expectations — just a safe, quiet space to pause, grieve, and breathe.

All are welcome.

We are holding our nation in prayer today — and especially Australia’s Jewish community.

What happened at Bondi Beach yesterday is shocking and deeply distressing. We grieve the loss of life, including the Rabbi who was killed, who led the local Chabad mission.

We stand in solidarity with Jewish Australians. Antisemitism, in any form, has no place in our country. Violence that terrorises a community because of who they are wounds us all.

As people of faith, we reject hatred and violence, and we recommit ourselves to the patient work of peace, care, and courage.

If you are struggling, please reach out. You do not have to carry this alone.

May their memory be a blessing.

Rev Glen
