GET OFF THAT ROOF
Scott was up on the roof helping his parents with some repairs when his mind began to wander.
He had done roofing before. Maybe he could go back to it. The pay was good. Life would be more stable. Maybe he could finally buy a house. Maybe there would be a little less financial pressure. More money. More security.
Those are good things, aren't they?
Then the roof started talking back.
His leg became tangled in the ladder and he twisted his knee. The repairs weren't coming together as planned. What should have been a simple job became one frustration after another. There was mist in the air that night and the paint simply wouldn't set. The injury, the setbacks, the disappointing results. By the end of it, to say he was frustrated would be an understatement.
And somewhere in the middle of that frustration, it dawned on him.
Just a few weeks earlier at Big Camp, he had sensed God calling him into full time ministry.
Not a vague feeling. A conviction.
He felt ready and willing
But then life happened. Bills happened. Worries happened. Roofs happened.
Somewhere between the calling and the climb, the practical voice began to drown out the voice of God.
The path back to roofing made sense. It was logical. Responsible. Safe.
There was just one problem
It wasn't what God had called him to do
How often do we do the same? God impresses something on our hearts, but before long we begin calculating costs, weighing risks, and choosing the familiar path. We trade conviction for comfort.
If God has spoken, don't let the noise of everyday life silence His voice. Don't let the bills, the worries, or the lure of security pull you away from His purpose.
Get off that roof
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
