This Sunday, we're starting our new series on the book of Leviticus. Now you might expect something dull, boring and irrelevant to 21st century Aussies like us. But God must have put this book in the bible for a reason. So, what’s that reason? Isn’t Leviticus just a bunch of gross instructions on how to butcher things, splash their blood around and depressing rules about not eating bacon? Besides, we’re NT Christians and love bacon (mostly). Why are we even bothering with this ancient book of rules that we no longer need to follow any more?
Well, I’m hoping in this series to get you as excited as I am about the place of Leviticus in God’s story! A grand story that is actually a continuation of Creation and points forward to glorious culmination in Heaven, the New Creation. I’m hoping to show you that Leviticus lays out before us the grand mission of God for his people to live with him. It contains all of the major themes of the whole bible story, giving us a deep and overarching understanding that we now take part in this same mission, the good news that God is providing a way for us to live in his holy presence.
To get the most out of this series, I recommend you do three things:
1. Read the whole of Leviticus. It’ll take about 2 hours. In less than 18 minutes a day you could have it read in one week.
2. Watch an 8 min video. The Bible Project has put together and excellent video that gives us an overview of Leviticus. Understanding the clever structure of this book and how it fits in the Pentateuch and bible as a whole will help you see the incredible importance of this book in understanding God and our relationship with him. Watch it here: https://bibleproject.com/guides/book-of-leviticus/
3. Join others on the journey. Join others in a small group to study, fellowship, worship and pray together about how to understand and apply what we learn each week into our lives. This is a great opportunity to join a Home Group.
Everybody welcome! Just come along on Sunday - 9.30am @ 14a Leslie Parade, Stanthorpe (just down from the big thermometer)
