July 30 is the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This day reminds us that every human being deserves dignity, freedom, and respect. Awareness helps us protect human rights and stand against exploitation. Mercy charism teaches that everyone is deserving of dignity, especially those who are vulnerable or downtrodden.

But there is still more to be done. As Catherine McAuley says, "we can never say, 'it is enough'." Resources like 'I Have a Voice' by Angela Reed, rsm and Marietta Latonio, and 'Inherent Dignity: An Advocacy Guidebook'. To find these resources, please head to the Mercy website or the link in our bio. Mercy also partners with other networks to raise awareness and further advocacy for trafficking survivors, such as Talitha K*m, ACRATH, and the Alliance to End Human Trafficking.

But, there is still more to be done. As Catherine McAuley says, "we can never say, 'it is enough'."

🎶 Sixty years ago, our very own Sister Suzanne Toolan wrote the beloved hymn "I Am the Bread of Life." 🎶

Based on words from the Gospel of John, the refrain reminds us of the central mystery of the Catholic faith. ❤

GIA Publications, Inc. recently wrote an article about this historic musical milestone! Check it out: https://giasacredmusic.substack.com/p/celebrating-60-years-of-i-am-the ⬅

Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg has held a place in Sister Anne Slattery's heart for almost 60 years.

Sr Anne began as a general nurse in 1967, before moving through different roles, including theatre nurse, Director of Nursing and finally Chief Executive Officer.

“There is a special bond between nurses and I’m still in touch with former colleagues – we have amazing stories to share from our time at Mater.”

The stories Sr Anne shares are just a handful of the memories made at the hospital, many of which will be remembered later this month when Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg celebrates its 80th anniversary.
“I feel very proud of the hospital’s achievements over that time,” said Sr Anne.

As a thank you to those who have helped shape its role over eight decades, Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg is hosting a day of celebrations on Wednesday July 29.
