Greetings & Happy New Year
My prayer for all the saints is that the Fear of the LORD will manifest in a very significant way throughout this year and the rest of their lives.
As I was preaching in the Pakistani Christian Fellowship on Sunday, 1st January 2017 on the subject of the Fear of God in Believers’ Lives, one particular verse struck me – Isaiah 33:6b “… The Fear of LORD is His treasure.”
Let us briefly ponder on the Treasure of God i.e. His Fear: The fear of the LORD turns people away from evil, bring healing to flesh and refreshment to bones (Proverbs 3:5-9); The fear of the LORD is wisdom (Job 28:28) and beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7); The fear of the LORD is the fountain of life and turns away from the snares of death (Proverbs 14:27; 10:27); The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honour and life (Proverbs 22:4); In fear of God, we submit to each other (Ephesians 5:21); When we have fear of God in our lives, God instructs us in the way we should choose (Proverbs 25:12-15); In the fear of the LORD, one has strong confidence (Proverbs 14:26)
The Church at large is not much different than the worldly people who live their lives without acknowledging God. One of the main reasons is because there is no fear of God in so-called Christians’ lives.
Although, I am not perfect by any means, I often pray for myself and my family members that the fear of the LORD should be the greatest asset in our lives for His glory. Even though I was born and brought up in a very primitive village of Pakistan, nevertheless, from my young age, I had the courage to admonish people around me for their wrongs - whether they were my class fellows, students or colleagues at various Colleges and Universities in Pakistan and Australia. I had this confidence because the Fear of the LORD was in my life. Whenever the LORD gave me opportunities to meet with Presidents, Prime-Ministers, members of various Federal and State governments and even at one stage to the General Secretary of the Noble Prize Committee, I was confident to speak and reproach as needed. During the court case in Melbourne, Australia, with the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV), I was advised by my legal team that it may be very intimidating. Amazingly, by God’s grace I did not feel intimidated by the seven legal minds that were hired by ICV, rather they were confused and most of the time could not think of reasonable questions to ask me.
Hence, God has promised wisdom, knowledge and confidence to those who fear Him. The LORD Jesus Christ has promised that He will give us the word in season (Matthew 10:19; Luke 12:12). Let us all get hold of the Treasure of the LORD in 2017 – the Fear of the LORD is available for each one of us and is waiting for us to use it for the LORD’s glory in this New Year.
God bless you all
