Christ Church Community Centre - the Little St Kilda Mission We have a small committee and the members are people from the local and wider community.

Community Centre offering free weekly community meal, emergency support 5 days a week, engagement in free or low cost activities and volunteering opportunities. A great team of volunteers help the 4 part-time paid workers provide programs and support for a wide range of individuals and groups.

This week during Volunteer Week we want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our incredible volunteers at the Christ Church Mission Community Centre.

From the bottom of our hearts, we are so grateful for the many hours you generously give each week. Your kindness, compassion, hard work and willingness to serve make such a difference in the lives of so many people in our community.

Whether you are welcoming guests, preparing meals, washing dishes, doing laundry, tending gardens, arranging flowers for dining tables, supporting families, a board member, driving and collecting food, cleaning or simply offering a listening ear, every act of service matters and is deeply appreciated.

Our Centre could not do what it does without each and every one of you. Thank you for being the hands of compassion, hope and community. ❤️

Thank you to Channel 7 for recognising the great work of OzHarvest Melbournet. Times are getting tougher and demand is increasing. We use fresh food for our Open House dinner on Thursday where we fed 130 people this week. We also provide much needed groceries to individuals and families Monday-Friday. Thank you to our wonderful participant who spoke, telling of the benefits. Note the other star of the show Marie, who coordinates our food relief, handling creates, making phone calls and welcoming hundreds of guests every week.

It’s with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved garden volunteer Annie Delplace-Smith. She especially liked watering on a Wednesday, and was always strict about cup of tea time! Here is a photo of her in February 2025 in wonderful colours matching the tomatoes she was harvesting - having a lot of fun! Today in the garden we lit a candle for Annie and held her in our thoughts as we worked. To a loved community member and friend, rest in peace 💐🌻🌹🌸☕️🫖

Our latest addition to the garden is a beautiful little pond with fish, helping create an even more peaceful place to sit, relax and enjoy the environment. 🐟💧

Our amazing volunteers work hard every Wednesday — and keep things watered throughout the week — to make sure the garden stays lush and productive, with fresh produce heading straight into the kitchen.

What a week in our community kitchen!

When water started backing up into our sink, we knew we had a serious plumbing problem on our hands. Unfortunately, after calling out a plumber who couldn’t fix it in time for our dinner service, took the expensive call out fee and didn’t come back, we were left completely stuck.

Thankfully, Dan the Man from DJ Murphy Plumbing stepped in. Dan and his team responded quickly and, with the brilliant support of industrial plumber Glen, got everything sorted and our kitchen back up and running.

We are so grateful for the swift response and hard work — you saved our dinner service and our sanity!

Thank you for supporting our community when we needed it most 🙌

Lovely Sonia is one of the true stars of our community centre 💛

She joins us on Mondays for Neighbourhood Connect, helps out in the kitchen garden on Wednesdays and is back again on Thursdays caring for our volunteers and preparing lunch alongside Zara. The two of them make a brilliant team — Zara arrives with a delicious cake and starts preparing sandwiches while Sonia adds her creative flair with beautiful fresh salads.

And just when you think she’s done enough, after preparing lunch for the volunteers , Sonia heads out to the garden to gather flowers, creating stunning arrangements for every dining table for our Open House community dinner.

Thank you, Sonia, for everything you bring to our community 🌸
