Please contact us on the number below or visit our website www.tbi.org.au Since our founding in 1930, we have been enriching the lives of our congregants through prayer, study, and celebration. We believe in a living Judaism that respects our history while simultaneously engaging with the opportunities and challenges of the modern world. Guided by the principles of egalitarianism and inclusion, we

form a welcoming congregation that strives to create a deep, lasting connection to Jewish life. Temple Beth Israel offers a wide variety of programs, classes, services, lifecycle events, festivals, choirs, and clubs. We invite you to join us here on Facebook, in our digital home at www.tbi.org.au, and at our community centre. Every week, we celebrate Shabbat with on both Friday evening and Saturday morning. Kabbalat Shabbat (Friday evening) begins at 6.15pm. Shabbat Shacharit (Saturday morning) begins at 10am.

Our High Holy Day events kicked off this past weekend, with S'lichot and then Reverse Tashlich on Sunday. The latter was a wonderful expression of our Jewish values, particularly tikkun olam, where we went to Elwood Beach to collect rubbish and "repair the sea". We made some great memories, and it was good to get the community together and connect the idea of Tashlich with caring for our local environment.

The kids enjoyed playing their part in giving back and one of the adults remarked that it's a shame this is needed, but feels good to do something about it.

Thanks to Samo for running the event and to everyone who came along!

What a beautiful way to celebrate Father’s Day!

Today, Cantor Michel had the honour of celebrating the baby naming of Sage Rene Vogel Pisel, surrounded by her loving family.

Mazal tov to Sage’s parents, Thomas and Julia Vogel Pisel! May Sage’s life be filled with love, laughter, learning and countless blessings. May she always be surrounded by a community that cherishes her.

What a special way to welcome this beautiful new member of our community. 🌿💕

Each week, our High Holy Day Choir has been hard at work - with just a bit of fun and silliness too! - rehearsing their upcoming appearances at our services. We didn't want to spoil their progress (you'll just have to come along and hear them for youself!), so these clips are from a few weeks ago and we look forward to hearing them come together for the Yamim Noraim.

Our events start tomorrow with our S'lichot program beginning at 8pm. See you there! And visit tbi.org.au/highholydays for everything you need to know for the forthcoming period.

Shabbat Shalom and Shana Tova!

SBS Hebrew speaks to Rabbi Allison Conyer for another episode in our series "Hopes & Fears in the Jewish Sphere". Rabbi Conyer serves as a progressive leader within the Melbourne community, and has devoted her life to studying, spreading Judaism and engaging in social activities.

Rabbi Allison Conyer and Temple Beth Israel wish gorgeous Talya and her family a hearty Mazal tov 🎉 on her ‘almost’ Bat Mitzvah. When Talya and her family said she wanted to celebrate with her Melbourne community in Australia before returning to Israel at just 11 years, our Senior Rabbi found a way to make this happen because community connection and cultivating positive Jewish identity matters!

Registration for Reverse Tashlich is now open! Each year, we put tikkun olam into action by heading to the beach and cleaning up rubbish.

While Tashlich encourages us to cast away what we want to leave behind into the water, Reverse Tashlich is a modern initiative to clean up the waterways and help "Repair the Sea".

Join us for a beach clean-up on Sunday 6 September at 4pm!
Visit https://tbi.org.au/highholydays/rsvp/ to RSVP.

On Sunday, we held "Sharing Our Stories", an interactive interfaith and multicultural workshop exploring Judaism - a joint effort between the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) and Temple Beth Israel (TBI). We welcomed a diverse group of people from across the community, where Rabbi Allison and Joshua Goodman shared an engaging introduction to Jewish life, culture and traditions.

For many attendees, it was their first time stepping into a Shul or seeing a Torah up close. The event sparked plenty of curiosity, conversation and a desire to learn more. We hope that, in future, we can hold more events like this and share more opportunities to connect.

One attendee said “I learned more about Judaism in those two hours than I’ve learned in a lifetime!”

Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success, and to all those who came along with such openness and curiosity.
