Our September prayer and worship gathering is coming up next week on Tuesday! Join us at 7.00pm on the 1st of September as we set aside time to seek the Lord together. We'll have the opportunity to specifically pray into the vision of SCC going forward - so, if you're invested in the future of our church, we would love to have you there!

None of us enjoy being under pressure. We’d probably choose the easier path if we could.

But if you’ve ever worked with clay, you know it isn’t made mouldable by being gentle with it. It becomes workable and ready to create something beautiful through pressure.

The same is often true in our lives.

The seasons that feel the hardest might be the very seasons God is using to shape our character, deepen our faith, and prepare us for what lies ahead.

The process isn’t comfortable. But it isn’t without purpose.

We spend a lot of our lives trying to avoid pain and discomfort. And when we do find ourselves in an uncomfortable season, we try to distract ourselves and get through it as quickly as possible.

But what if the season you’re trying to escape is the very place God wants to do a deep work in you?

This doesn’t mean pain is good or that suffering is easy. But it does mean our waiting isn’t meaningless.

Maybe the question shouldn’t be “when will this end?”

But instead, “God, what do you want to do in this season?”

He does not waste your waiting.

We all want the map.

We want to know why it happened.
Why the prayer wasn’t answered in the way we hoped.
Why the door closed.
Why the waiting feels like it’s endless.

We long for explanations thinking they’ll give us peace.

But God gives us something even greater: His presence.

When the chips are down, we have the assurance that our creator is with us. And He promises us that we never have to face life alone.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

God doesn’t always fix the problem, heal the sickness or undo the accident.

The promise of scripture isn’t that we’ll never suffer, it’s that we’re not alone in it. And even when we don’t have the words or the strength, the Holy Spirit prays for us.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Romans 8:26

The Mooring is a ministry of our church that supports families going through moments of deep grief and trauma. Graham Leo shared a hope-filled message on Sunday about finding hope in those moments based on his book ‘Finding Hope’. This is a resource that The Mooring makes available to all the families that they care for alongside the practical support they provide. If you’d like to learn more about The Mooring or make a tax-deductible donation before the end of the financial year, visit themooring.com.au. Your generous support is what keeps this incredibly important ministry running.

You can grab a copy of the book this Sunday by making a donation to The Mooring after one of our services.

Do our choices matter or is everything already mapped out?

The free will of man and the sovereignty of God can be hard to reconcile as both being true. They can sometimes seem like parallel train tracks, never touching. Yet when you look to the horizon, they meet up in the distance.

Whether you’re regretting past decisions or grieving the consequences someone else’s choices have had on your life, it’s easy to be left wondering whether there’s any purpose to the twists and turns of your story.

Thankfully, our lives aren’t defined by a single decision or a painful season.

We have a God who is able to redeem what was meant for harm, and to bring purpose out of situations that seem unfair.

We might not see the tracks meet now, but we can have confidence that even in grief and pain, God hasn’t stopped writing the story.

“Just look inside yourself”

We’ve been told that all the answers are inside us but that has still left people feeling emptier than ever.

Because we’re looking for something that can’t be found through self-discovery.

True life, purpose, and satisfaction can only be found in Jesus Christ.

“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’” John 6:35
