Congratulations to our Pastoral Worker John Lee!

We’ve got one more important piece of news!

Last week’s PCV Assembly also appointed Dr Seung-Joo (John) Lee as PTC's Lecturer in Theological Studies, from January 2025.

John has an MA from Westminster Seminary California and a PhD from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His book The Orders of Nature and Grace: Thomistic Concepts in the Moral Thought of Franciscus Junius (1545–1602), was published by Brill in 2024.

He has taught 2 semesters of Theology classes already at PTC, and has several years of pastoral experience, including at South Yarra PC. He is married to Daisy.

Congratulations to South Yarra member Jared Hood on this significant appointment.

We are delighted to announce that last week's Assembly appointed Rev Dr Jared Hood as Principal of PTC from January 2025.

Jared is currently our Lecturer in Old Testament Studies, and has been on our Faculty since 2008, following over a decade in congregational ministry. He has a PhD in Jewish Studies from the University of Melbourne and a ThM from Westminster Seminary in historical theology, and is also the executive editor of the Reformed Theological Review.

Congratulations to Jared and his wife Cassie on this appointment - we look forward to seeing what the Lord will do through it!

Congratulations to our Pastoral Worker, Dr John Lee, on this handsome publication of his Doctoral Dissertation!

We are delighted to announce the imminent publication of the following volume from Brill by our own Seung-Joo (John) Lee. The title is 'The Orders of Nature and Grace: Thomistic Concepts in the Moral Thought of Franciscus Junius (1545-1602),' and the work is a revision and updating of his PhD dissertation.
John is currently serving as a pastoral worker at South Yarra Presbyterian Church while also pursuing further studies at PTC. He has also helped us in recent times as an adjunct lecturer in Theology.

It's great to see a scholar local to Melbourne engaged in what has been an international endeavour over the past generation to revive interest in the Reformed Scholasticism of the 16th and 17th centuries, demonstrating its fundamental continuity with the Reformation, but also the important ways theologians like Junius were in thoughtful conversation with medieval doctors like Thomas Aquinas.

Seeking a Minister for SYPC

A congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, we were established on our present site in 1854 and have continued to proclaim the gospel in the inner suburbs of Melbourne. We are now looking to call a new senior minister.

We are a Reformed and evangelical church that values sound preaching and a confessional approach to worship, teaching and congregational life. We are thankful for a tradition of fine preachers and pastors and want to maintain a faithful and welcoming witness to the gospel. We are currently a vigorous congregation with between 40 and 50 regularly attending, with an active eldership, drawing people both from South Yarra and across Melbourne, from a variety of cultural backgrounds. A pastoral support worker has recently been employed to assist us in expanding the ministry of the congregation. Our property’s size and inner-city location provides considerable scope for future ministry, and we are looking to renew our heritage church building as part of that process.

Our selection committee is seeking expressions of interest from those with experience in congregational ministry, who prize the preaching of the Word and welcome the opportunity to pastor within a confessionally Reformed context.

With great thankfulness to God, we look forward to returning this Sunday (11th Dec) to holding services at our own building, at 621 Punt Road, South Yarra. We're so thankful to St Kilda-Balaclava Presbyterian Church for their hospitality in allowing us to hold our services in their buildings for the last 6 months, but it will be good to be home!
