Rabbit-Proof Fence
Mass Migration

When Dutch explorers first discovered Australia in 1606, there were no rabbits to be found throughout the continent. That all changed in 1859, when an English settler, Thomas Austin, released 24 rabbits on his property near Melbourne, Australia.
While living in England, Austin loved hunting rabbits for sport. At the time, he thought the introduction of a few rabbits could do little harm and might provide a touch of home. As we know, rabbits are extremely prolific creatures. And with Australia's mild winters, Austin's rabbits were able to breed year-round. Along with plentiful vegetation, this provided the perfect conditions for a rabbit population explosion.
Within ten years of their introduction, rabbits had become so prevalent that two million could be shot or trapped annually without making a noteworthy dent in their numbers. It was the fastest spread ever recorded in history of any mammal anywhere in the world. In a desperate attempt to halt the spread of rabbits to Western Australia, the country built what they hoped would be a Rabbit-Proof Fence.
Beginning in 1901, the fence took six years to build. When completed in 1907, it was the longest fence in the world, stretching more than 2,000 miles from north to south. But the fence did not stop the rabbits from migrating westward. The rabbits tunneled their way under eroded sections of the fence, jumped through holes in the damaged wire, and other times they simply hopped through gates that were accidentally left open. Today, rabbits are entrenched in Australia and number in the hundreds of millions.
Did you know the Bible speaks of an unstoppable population explosion and mass migration? The Bible says when the children of Israel entered Egypt, there were 70 people. When they left during the Exodus 215 years later, there were 603,550 males aged between 20 and 60. If you do the math, there must have been around 2 to 2.5 million Israelites!
"The children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.... But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew" (Exodus 1:7, 12).

“Keep the Sabbath day holy…”
— Deuteronomy 5:12 ✨
Deuteronomy 5:12 calls us to “keep the Sabbath day holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you.” It’s more than a day off—it’s a day set apart, a reminder that our time belongs to God.
In a world that never seems to slow down, this verse gently reminds us to pause, rest, and reconnect. The Sabbath is a gift—an invitation to step away from the rush and draw near to the One who gives us strength.
Taking time to honour God helps restore not only our bodies, but our hearts and minds as well.

🌿 Saying “Wow!”
Read Psalm 8:1-9

Key Verse:
O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
PSALM 8:1 NLT

Understand:
* Where are some of the most picturesque places you've ever been?
* Where are two or three of your all-time favourite places to visit?

Apply:
Imagine today that you have to drive quite a ways into the countryside. You can't help feeling nostalgic about some of the most beautiful places you'll pass along the way. Seeing a strikingly beautiful place for the first time stirs feelings of transcendence, of "Wow!"
Conversely, spoiled creation produces embarrassment or disgust at the wasteful, sinful actions of other men. Yet many awe-inspiring places still remain. Each place speaks to you in a deep and mysterious way. Often, it's the Holy Spirit inside you, lifting your heart with a fresh revelation of the Lord God's infinite, eternal power and glory.
True, creation can't tell us everything about God, but what it says is of first importance. The Lord God could but speak the word and create the entire universe. And, yes, He made you, planted the seed of faith in your heart, helped you understand the Good News of Jesus Christ, and is at work in your heart and life to this day.
Saying "Wow!" when you see the marvels of creation is important because it draws your heart closer to God. May you experience "Wow!" even more frequently as you see amazing, God-inspired truths in scripture during these next three months.
Along the way, you'll have opportunities to say "Wow!" to God's inspiration of the Bible, preservation of the scriptures, the miracle of translation, and much more.

Pray:
Yes, Lord, I want to say "Wow!" for Your majestic name! I also want to say "Wow!" for all You have in store for me as I read Your Word. Please keep changing me from the inside out.

2 Kings 11:7 shows a powerful moment of shared responsibility and faithfulness.
The people were given a role—to stand, to guard, and to protect what God had put in place. Each person had a position, and together they formed a covering.
This reminds us that faith is not lived alone.
We are often called to stand together—to protect, support, and remain faithful in what God has entrusted to us.
Sometimes obedience looks like simply staying at your post.
Watching. Guarding. Remaining faithful.

Numbers 28:9–10 reminds us that the Sabbath was set apart as a day of intentional worship. Even amid daily offerings, God called His people to bring something additional on the Sabbath—an act that signified deeper devotion and acknowledgment that this day belonged wholly to Him.
The Sabbath was not an interruption of life, but a re‑centering of it. These verses invite us to reflect on how we set aside time to honour God with intention, reverence, and gratitude—offering Him more than routine.

Numbers 15:32 records a moment that causes us to pause. While Israel was journeying through the wilderness, a man was found gathering sticks on the Sabbath—a command that had been clearly given by God. This passage reminds us that God’s instructions were not symbolic or optional; they were meant to shape a holy people set apart in how they lived, rested, and trusted Him.
Though the account is difficult, it teaches us something enduring: obedience to God’s word matters, even in our everyday choices. What may seem small to us can still carry weight in God’s covenant. This verse invites us to examine how seriously we approach God’s commands and how we honour sacred time in our own lives.

Kangaroos
Amazing Marsupials

Kangaroos are among the most unique creatures on God's earth.

Different species of them can be found living all over Australia-from big open plains and deserts to forests. Fossils tell us Australia once had kangaroos ten feet tall. Today, the red kangaroo is the world's largest marsupial, growing to six feet and weighing as much as 200 pounds. It can also run nearly 40 mph, bounding in arcs 10 feet high and 25 feet across!

Kangaroos are the only large animals that move by hopping.

Their strong tails are used for balance when hopping and as a fifth limb when grazing. All kangaroos are herbivores, and those living in the drier regions need very little water. Red kangaroos can even go without water if fresh grass is available.

But these vegetarians can be deadly. The powerful hind legs— with their long, sharp toenails—are a dangerous weapon. With one kick, kangaroos can disembowel opponents.

A doe kangaroo can become pregnant again directly after a joey is born, but the development of that pregnancy will be suspended until the first baby is lost or leaves the pouch. This means a female kangaroo can have three babies at the same time: an older joey living outside the pouch, a young one in the pouch, and an embryo on hold.

It's also fascinating that the doe is able to develop two kinds of milk to feed her two nursing offspring - a high-fat milk for the younger joey in the pouch and a high-carbohydrate milk for the older joey. But, eventually, the young kangaroos must learn to live off solid food.

Did you know that the Bible says some baby Christians never get weaned? "Though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness" (Hebrews 5:12, 13).

Leviticus 26:34 offers a sobering reminder: when God’s Sabbaths were ignored, the land would still receive its rest—though in a far more painful way. In Israel’s absence, while they were in the land of their enemies, the الأرض was finally allowed to rest as God had commanded.
This verse speaks to the seriousness of obedience and the certainty of God’s word. What is neglected in faith will not be forgotten by God. His design—for people, land, and life—will ultimately stand.
