Those who are close to me would know how much I value honouring others, especially those in leadership or position of authority.

Australia is one of countries I have lived in where I have experienced honour and respect for our leaders is so low to the point of non existent.

As a result, this attitude has made its way into the church. As I read Romans 13, Paul gives clear instructions on this subject, there was no exception to the rule, this instruction was to believer in the church at Colossae, I am sure Paul would have known they were already, loving each other as Christ instructed, I am sure the leaders were already humble, I am sure the leaders were doing their best, But Paul still instructed them to honour and respect their leaders and those in authority. Why? Because all positions of authority is God instituted, but not necessarily God led.

When we as Christians show or give honour and respect to those in authority, and unbelievers witness this we are giving glory and praise to God.

I also see a false humility in some leaders who push away or stop others who are showing them honour and respect, yes, we don’t go asking and pushing people to do it, and that’s what Jesus condemns in Matthew 23. Jesus never outrightly condemns showing respect and honour.

In my leadership and mentorship this is something I start with, it is something I highly encourage. I don’t just honour those in authority, it goes in every direction, above, middle and below.

We give glory and praise to God, But we honour and respect people. If you hear me call someone pastor this or that, I am not putting them on a pedestal or think they are holier than me, But rather I am publicly saying I affirm the gift and call on your life as a shepherd within the church, I give you permission to correct me, to discipline me, to speak wisdom into my life. I submit to your authority under Christ.

Pastors you are shepherd of God’s folk, start leading, teaching, guiding and encouraging your congregation on how to show honour and respect in a society soo lost and confused on what it means to show honour and respect.

Is this an area you are struggling with, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you.

It’s been an absolute honour and privilege to lead the team from .yth to praise fest and Presence conference 2024. I am excited to see the fruits that will come out of the 27 leaders and young adults who came and the 80+ from Tassie.

One of the questions I hear most often asked about believe in God is this:

How can do believe such a ridiculous and childish nonsense? Richard Dawkins the evolution biologist and atheist frequently asks this question.

To be honest, it sometimes does give me pause, and I ask myself why do I believe this?

Well the answer for me is this: It starts with what I can see, the created world, then I bring that inwards to the things I have experienced like the need to be seen, loved, and cared for like no human can.

then I look at the billions of people around the world who experience the wonderful power of the Holy Spirit, Then Faith kicks in, Faith is the fuel to my soul that allows me to believe in the virgin birth, to believe Jesus did die on the cross, to believe in the resurrection.

When you think about it, it does sound childish, yet that’s exactly what Jesus says our faith and belief should look like.

After asking the questions, after looking at all the constants of the universe, seeing the tremendous potential within us to either choose life or death, to love or to hate, to create or to destroy. For me I come back with a childlike attitude towards my God and King. God is revealed from faith for faith.

Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to transform your faith or are other people’s opinions and disbelief taking over?

Happy New Year Everyone!!
In 2024 God is doing a new thing in your life and you will live to be his witness to it.
The truth is, He has never stopped, the reason we sometimes feel like he has stopped may be due to us being too focused on whats happening around us in our level of sight.

I love how the Psalmist put it in Psalm 121, I lift my eyes to the hills where my help comes from, my help comes from the Lord the maker of the Heavens and the Earth.

I pray in 2024 as you fix your eyes on God, where your help comes from, and away from your circumstances, troubles and surroundings. He will be a very present help.

This is not to say we become superficial and off putting about our struggles, our pain and sufferings. In fact we are encouraged to talk about it with each other, to carry each other burdens.

But in so, we should have a sense of calmness and confidence that God will be your helper.

What a fantastic effort by our creative team over the weekend with the carols service.

These services are a huge undertaking of time, energy and creativity. Special thanks to Chantelle Fair and .jv and the army of volunteers who worked so hard behind the scenes using their God given gifts and talents to bless us and the community.

The church is a community of ordinary people who are called out of the worldly desires of self by God to love, care and serve each other.

Do we get it right all the time?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

But that’s part of the message of Jesus, through him, his teachings, and the work of the Holy Spirit in those who have accepted him, we can forgive, endure and bear each other’s burdens.

So here is my challenge to you today:

There are many ministry areas within the church (any church) you can use your spiritual gifts and talents to serve.

I encourage you to not just attend Sunday services and consume the contents, but to get involved.

In the book of Acts 2 from v 40 we see how the believers were devoted to one another in prayer, meals and to the teachings of the apostles.

The Holy Spirit can show you how you can use your gifts and talents to serve your brothers and sisters in Christ.
