Temptations abound all around us. We're tempted at every turn-- some more than others, some in different areas than others-- but we're all tempted. The sin is not in the temptation. It is in the yielding to the temptation. This scripture reminds us that we are not supposed to use our bodies as instruments of sin. We are not supposed to use our bodies as instruments of unrighteousness. We are supposed to present ourselves to God and everything about ourselves--our entire bodies, our entire beings, we're supposed to submit to God as instruments of righteousness. We're supposed to allow our bodies to be used in the service of God, to give Him our heart, our hands, our feet, our eyes, our ears. We're called to use every member of our bod.

# Courage is facing life’s challenges with the help and direction of God. Courage is being resolute in the face of great trials. Courage is being strong and steadfast in the ways of God, even if you’re the only one! By the grace of God, you can make a difference! You can change the whole direction of your family tree! You can stand up in the face of fear, hardship, and peer pressure, and lead others into whole new way of life! What God said to Joshua, he’s saying to us, “You’re not alone, every step of your life, I’ll be there. I’ve not forgotten you. I am with you. You need only to be strong and courageous. Follow me, keep my word, and I will bless you wherever you go.”
# Courage comes from trusting God. It can’t be mentally drummed up. It comes from believing what God says regardless of what the circumstances look like. Courage comes from faith! Where does discouragement come from? From fear and unbelief. It comes when you listen to the devil’s lies about what God is not going to do for you. As the people of God, you and I must shake off discouragement and rise up with courage! We must quit looking at our own abilities and failures and limitations and start looking to God. We must rise up in the Name of Jesus and the power of His Spirit and establish the kingdom of heaven upon earth.
# If you’ve been discouraged lately, stop listening to Satan’s lies. Stop receiving evil reports. Whenever someone tells you God is not going to deliver you, you just tell them, “He’s already delivered me in the Name of Jesus.” Once you begin to realize who you are and what you’ve been given by the power of God, you’ll quit letting the devil run all over you. God didn’t suggest that you be strong and courageous. That is His command!

jonah 1 // now the word of the lord came unto jonah the son of amittai, saying, [2] arise, go to nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. [3] but jonah rose up to flee unto tarshish from the presence of the lord, and went down to joppa; and he found a ship going to tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto tarshish from the presence of the lord.

[17] now the lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up jonah. and jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

[3] so jonah arose, and went unto nineveh, according to the word of the lord. now nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. [4] and jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, yet forty days, and nineveh shall be overthrown.

[5] so the people of nineveh believed god, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. [6] for word came unto the king of nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. [7] and he caused it to be proclaimed and published through nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: [8] but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto god: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. [9] who can tell if god will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

THREE PARTS
TNDL: Three parts with different purposes
Now let’s discuss each of these three parts and their corresponding functions.
Our body through its five senses contacts the visible, touchable, tangible things of the material world. It’s the most outward and visible part of our being, and by it we exist and experience the things in the physical realm. But of course, we’re more than just a physical body.
Our soul, though unseen, is just as real as our body. By our soul, we experience things in the psychological realm. In fact, the Greek word for soul in the Bible is psuche, which is also the root word of psychology. Our soul is composed of our mind, which enables us to do things like think, reason, consider, remember, and wonder; our emotions, which enable us to have feelings like happiness, sorrow, anger, relief, and compassion; and our will, which enables us to choose and make decisions. Our mind, emotion, and will make up our soul, which is our personality, who we are within.
But we are even more than just a body with a soul within. We have a part that’s deeper than our soul—our spirit, which is the deepest and most hidden part of our being. By our spirit we can contact the spiritual realm. No other creature was created with this third part, the spirit, within. By our spirit God is real to us and we can contact Him, receive Him, contain Him, and fellowship with Him.
Why we have a spirit
God created us with a spirit because He wants to know us, have a relationship with us, and even live in us.
Not only was our spirit made for God, but our spirit also has the ability to contact, receive, and worship God. As John 4:24 says,
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truthfulness.”
John 3:6 tells us that we are born of the Spirit in our spirit. After we are born of God, we continue to contact and worship Him by our spirit.
