Palmwoods Uniting Church

Palmwoods Uniting Church Palmwoods Uniting Church is a family of people meeting together, trying as best we might to serve our Lord Jesus Christ. We love our community!

We also have a Community Garden in Hill St, 'Soil & Soul'. Palmwoods Uniting Church is but one of 2500 churches under the umbrella of the Uniting Church of Australia. More directly, we are part of the Blackall Range Uniting Church. Perhaps most importantly, we are a "like-minded" family of people who care about each other. Each day we get out of bed and try to be better at reflecting the example s

et by Jesus Christ. We love our local community and actively support various ventures within it. We are proud and privileged to have a Tongan community as part of our family church. At present we have an All Age Family Service at 10am on the 1st Sunday if the month & Holy Communion with our Tongan congregation at 10am on the 3rd Sunday of the month. We also have Reflection in the Garden at the Community Garden in Hill St on the 2nd & 4th Sunday’s of the month at 3pm. If there is a 5th Sunday it will be a combined service at Maleny Uniting Church. We join in prayer for the family of young Warlpiri girl, Kumanjayi Little Baby.

God of justice and mercy, we come before you grieving.

We lament the loss of Kumanjayi Little Baby - a child known and loved, and a life precious beyond words. Lord, we know that you hear the cries of Kumanjayi Little Baby’s family, community, and Country. You know the weight of sorrow, of anger, and questions with no easy answers.

We pray that you would bring comfort, healing, bind the brokenhearted, and hold this community in your gentle care, now and in the days and weeks ahead. Jesus, be present. Thank you for their faith, strengthen and assure them with your comforting presence.

We ask for your protection and guidance for the community, as well as the emergency and support services as they respond and provide care in the wake of this news. We also pray for wisdom for those holding the ongoing investigation into Kumanjayi Little Baby’s passing.

May your deep, steady, and tender love be with all those who are hurting. And may you draw near to Kumanjayi Little Baby’s family and her community in this time of Sorry Business and deep grief.

Amen.

Amen.

At a time of renewed debate on immigration in Australia, we are called to respond with compassion, clarity and courage.

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 25:35: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me”.

As Christians, we are called to uphold truth, justice and dignity for all, beginning with right relationships with Australia’s First Peoples, and extending to every newcomer – whether they be a refugee, asylum seeker or visa holder.

Australia is a multicultural, multifaith society, strengthened by diversity. Policies that divide or dehumanise do not lead to a flourishing society; they only harm.

A strong and hopeful future is built through peaceful relationships and cooperation that honours the inherent dignity and equal worth of every person.

The Uniting Church in Australia stands in prayerful solidarity with our global ecumenical partners, the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) and the World Council of Churches, as they raise their voices in response to the violence and instability in the Middle East.

We echo their deep concern at the devastating impact of ongoing military strikes, particularly on civilians and civilian infrastructure. We join in denouncing attacks on civilian locations and call for the protection of civilians, respect for international humanitarian law, and immediate steps toward peace.

The Uniting Church also reiterates the urgent call for restraint, de-escalation, and an end to the cycle of violence, recognising the growing humanitarian crisis affecting communities, particularly in Iran and Lebanon.

We encourage you to read and reflect on these important statements:

May we continue to pray for peace, justice and the dignity of all people.
