Have you noticed more people sleeping rough in our community lately?

Many people across our area are doing it tough right now. Rising housing costs, financial pressure, family breakdown, mental health challenges and unexpected life events can all contribute to homelessness.

If you see someone sleeping rough, your response matters more than you may realise. Small acts of kindness and dignity can make a real difference. ❤️

Here are some helpful ways to respond:

• Say hello and acknowledge them as a person
• Not everyone sleeping rough identifies as homeless or needs the same kind of support — approach with respect and curiosity, not assumptions
• Ask if they know about local support services or community meals
• Avoid judgement
• Respect personal space and boundaries
• If someone appears distressed, aggressive or unsafe, prioritise your own safety and contact appropriate services if needed
• If someone appears to be in immediate danger or a medical crisis, call emergency services
• Support local organisations working with vulnerable people in our community
• Remember: compassion costs nothing

Not everyone sleeping rough will want assistance, and that’s okay too. Treating people with dignity, respect and kindness helps create a safer and more caring community for everyone.

It’s been a busy couple of months for our Emergency Services truck Pearl and team. The team have done a fabulous job supporting bushfire affected communities between the Trawool and Longwood Fires.
This past month the team have been out supporting Good Friday Fish and Chips in Ruffy and last night supported the Under The Same Stars homelessness awareness event in Shepparton.

On Sunday the Seymour team provided a bush fire relief dinner at Ruffy for the community.
Tuesday night saw the team head to Terip Terip for the second community dinner.
Tonight the Seymour team finished up with a dinner at Highlands.
Well done to the volunteers for giving up their time to support those communities

Wanted: mainly music volunteers!

We’re not looking for experts — we’re looking for people who care and are committed to child safety.

You might be a good fit if you: Enjoy being around young children and families; Are warm, approachable, and able to listen well; Like helping create relaxed, welcoming environments; Are reliable and happy to be part of a team; Are comfortable helping behind the scenes or engaging with people; Are willing to learn (support and guidance are provided)

A Working With Children's Check is required, but no other specific experience is required.

mainly music has been running in Seymour for over 15 years. Support the mainly music program by helping create a warm, welcoming, and well-run space for toddlers and their parents or carers; where they feel valued and loved.

mainly music volunteers help build a safe and caring environment where families feel supported, children can thrive, and community connections can grow.

Volunteers may help in one or more of the following ways, depending on interest and availability:

- Help prepare and serve morning tea for toddlers and parents/carers.
- Assist with set-up and pack-down of the program space.
- Be a friendly, caring presence for parents and carers during the session.
- Help welcome families and support a sense of belonging.
- Assist with simple multimedia tasks (e.g. music playback, slides, microphone setup).
- Work alongside the mainly music team to support a smooth and enjoyable program.

(You don’t need to do everything — roles are shared and matched to your strengths!)

Time commitment is every Thursday morning during school terms.

For many families, mainly music is more than a program — it’s a place of connection and support. Volunteers help create a space where parents feel seen, children are valued, and community can grow.
