It was great to welcome visiting Jesuits from Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne to last month’s celebration of the 175th anniversary of the establishment of the Sevenhill Jesuit community and ministries. Thank you to our Sevenhill Altar Society volunteers and to the large number of volunteers from both Sevenhill and Riverton parishes, and the Sevenhill Retreat Centre staff, who worked generously to support the Mass in St Aloysius’ Church and the dinner at the Barn at La Storta. At the Mass, Bishop Gregory O’Kelly, S.J. reflected on the life and legacy of Fr Aloysius Kranewitter, S.J., the founder of the Jesuit Mission at Sevenhill. After founding the Jesuit ministries at Sevenhill in 1851, Fr Kranewitter was missioned to Melbourne in 1870, where he served until his death at Heidelberg on 25 August 1880. Bishop O’Kelly spoke about the enormous adversity that Fr Kranewitter faced, and the power of Fr Kranewitter’s practice of praying for patience, courage and hope.

There is Freedom in Forgiveness

Today (7 July) we commemorate Global Forgiveness Day with a reflection on forgiveness by Danny and Leila Abdallah (i4Give Foundation - The Four Angels).

Following a devastating tragedy, they chose forgiveness, a decision guided by their Christian faith. As Danny and Leila share, "When people hear our story, they often ask us the same question: How could you forgive?"

"As followers of Jesus, we are called to forgive as we have been forgiven. We know this is not always easy. Forgiveness can be one of the hardest things a person will ever do. We have learned that forgiveness is not a feeling; it is a choice. Often, it is a choice that must be made again and again."

They were also inspired by the example of Saint Mary MacKillop, "who lived a life marked by humility, compassion and forgiveness. ... Her words, 'Be full of forgiveness, hope and love', remain as relevant today as they were when she first wrote them."

We invite you to view the whole reflection and find out more about the i4Give Foundation here: www.sosj.org.au/there-is-freedom-in-forgiveness
