JISA Sevenhill

JISA Sevenhill JISA Sevenhill offers a unique space for prayer and contemplation. We are a national community of women and men formed in Ignatian Spirituality.

JISA Sevenhill

In July 2020, we formed the new national body of Jesuit and Ignatian Spirituality Australia (JISA). Our community is a newly formed nationally administered body incorporating the Australian Centres of Ignatian Spirituality: Campion in Melbourne Victoria, Sevenhill and Loyola-Adelaide in South Australia, Faber in Brisbane Queensland and Canisius in Sydney New South Wales. Our commu

nity also includes the mobile and online First Spiritual Exercises ministry and the Being with God in Nature ministry which is inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si. Our coming together enables more agility and mobility, to go where the needs are greater, to continue interacting with you wherever you are, whether it’s in your parish, school, diocese, organisation, online or out in nature. We give the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola and accompany individuals and groups through spiritual conversation and spiritual direction. We offer retreats, ministry supervision and Ignatian formation for leadership and mission.

✝️ Jesuit Superior General Fr Arturo Sosa SJ invited prayers for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis after the Pontiff’s death on Easter Monday. He writes: “In the words spoken on the evening of 13 March 2013, when greeting the faithful gathered in St Peter's Square to celebrate the newly elected Pope, we already find two key dimensions of his ministry: the importance of walking together, Bishop and people, on a path of fraternity, love, trust and hope; and the centrality of prayer, especially that of intercession.”

In Early September Fr Rob the Director of JISA Sevenhill was fortunate to make a short pilgrimage to sites linked to st Ignatius, author of the Spiritual Exercises.

In 1522 Ignatius visited the Marian shrine at Montserrat, the “serrated mountain”. Here he laid down his sword and dagger at the famous shrine of Our Lady of Montserrat, the Black Madonna, put aside the garb of a nobleman and adopted the simple coarse garment of a pilgrim.

In March 1522 Ignatius walked from Montserrat to Manresa, a small town 23 km away. Intending to remain only a short time Ignatius stayed here 11 months. Here he came known as the sack cloth man, an eccentric pilgrim who helped the sick and spent hours in prayer. Ignatius often prayed in a rock cave overlooking the Cardoner River. His reflections here became the basis of the Spiritual Exercises.
