St Bede's Anglican Church, Semaphore

St Bede's Anglican Church, Semaphore The Anglican Parish of Semaphore. The Spirit of Semaphore. We are a Christian community. We take the bible seriously, but not always literally.

The page of the Anglican Parish of Semaphore, an inclusive Traditional Anglican Parish in the Western Suburbs of Adelaide. This page exists to help people explore a more “progressive” expression of Christianity and to advocate for social justice. We generally avoid entering into Facebook discussion with those of significantly differing views, as there are other, more appropriate

forums for those conversations. Many of our on-line community are gentle souls so as a duty of care to them; people who post ugly hateful things will be banned. This page is intended for people over the age of 18. In church on Sundays we welcome those who are single, married, divorced, filthy rich, or dirt poor. You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing,” just woke up or just got out of jail. We don’t care if your family is Anglican, Catholic, Baptist, New Age, Old Age, Hindu, Atheist or if you haven’t been to church for ages. We welcome you if you can sing like Pavarotti, or like most of us can’t carry a note in a bucket. We welcome soccer moms, footy dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians and junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion,” we’ve been there too. If you blew all your money on the pokies, you’re still welcome. We are so glad to see those of you who work too hard and those who don’t work at all. You are welcome, even if you are here today simply because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church. We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both. If you’re straight or gay or somewhere in between or don't like silly labels we offer a special welcome. If you could use a prayer right now, you are in the right place.. If you’ve had religion shoved down your throat and don’t quite know what’s going on, but somehow wound up here, we welcome you. We welcome seekers and skeptics. Its no mistake you’re here. Something brought you here. Perhaps we can help you discover what the something is.

* we join with many other churches who have (shared, copied, plagiarized, pinched, stolen, appropriated and adapted this welcome message. In partnership with AnglicareSA we offer a drop in centre and meal for members of the community. We have a community garden with plots available for lease, and Bede's Bazaar, our op shop and Parish contact office, in Semaphore Road. We are LGBT friendly.

A Prayer Composed by St. Bede

I pray you, noble Jesus, that as you have graciously granted me
to drink in with delight the words of your knowledge,
so you will also of your bounty grant me to come at length to yourself,
the fount of all wisdom,
and to dwell in your presence for ever.
Amen.
