Sorry friends and family for being so slack at posting recently. I will endeavour to remedy this.
I am pretty disabled these days mainly with peripheral neuropathy and arthritis in my ankles, knees, hips and hands. I have to walk with a stick and am only good for about half a kilometre at this stage. On the good side my diabetes is well under control and I have lost 27kg.
We had been planning to do a big trip to England, Scotland, France and Bali. We were hoping to meetup with friends and family and the prompt was to go to our niece’s wedding in Brittany. Working through a travel agent we were having great difficulty getting an itinerary that suited us but were still negotiating.
I then developed pains in my hand accompanied by symptoms that gave me some cause for alarm. I went to the Townsville University Hospital ED, was triaged reasonably quickly and given a blood test. News came back that the infection markers were high and I was to be admitted immediately. X-rays followed and I then had my hand operated on. The surgeons cleaned out the wound and sewed me up again. I was on antibiotics at this stage. After a week they operated again and once more cleaned out infected tissue leaving the wound with a drain which I had to cart around with me if I needed to move anywhere. A week later I had a final operation and they sewed my hand up.
At this stage the trip has gone out of the door and I have to do a considerable amount of remedial work to get my right hand working again. I am having the stitches removed on Tuesday and there are remedial sessions booked. I’ll keep you informed.
Yours Aye
Philip
